    The chief executive of Smethwick-based 2 Sisters Food Group, Ronald Kers, said that "in reality food is too cheap".

    Mr Kers told the BBC that the price of chicken, the UK's most popular meat, should be higher to reflect the extra costs the business is facing.

    The firm has 600 farms and 16 factories across the UK.

    A woman has been taken to hospital in a critical condition following a crash, police said.

    Officers from the Staffordshire and West Midlands Serious Collision Investigation Unit are appealing for witnesses.

    Police were called to Cherry Close, Newcastle-under-Lyme at 13:25 on Monday following a single-vehicle collision, involving a purple VW Caddy Max.

    A woman in her 60s suffered serious injuries and was taken to the Royal Stoke University Hospital.

    The force asked people not to speculate on the cause of the crash due to the ongoing police investigation.

    The police are being asked to do more to tackle the racist abuse of the British-Chinese community in Birmingham in the wake of Covid-19.

    City councillor Alex Yip said people from Chinese, Asian and South-East Asian backgrounds had been sworn at and told to go "back to China" and taunted with "here comes Covid".

    Mr Yip said there'd been a 300% increase in hate crime directed at people of that heritage as a result of the coronavirus.

    He said he wanted West Midlands Police to make its hate crime reporting app more accessible and asked the force to do more to understand the "nuances within the Chinese community".

    Three of Warwickshire's County Championship and Bob Willis Trophy winning team have been named in the England Lions squad to tour Australia in November.

    Fast bowler Liam Norwell and opening batsman Rob Yates receive their first international call-ups, while fellow opener Dom Sibley is in the second string after being left out of the England Ashes Test squad.

    The Lions, who will be in camp alongside the England Ashes squad, will play two intra-squad matches (1 x 3-day and 1 x 4-day matches) in Queensland. They will also take on Australia A in a four-day match.

    Dates and venues are still to be confirmed.

    The party will return home on 16 December.

    NHS vaccination teams are uniting with local fire stations across Staffordshire to offer walk-in clinics to patients seeking the vaccine.

    Fire stations across Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent will be opening their doors to people who are eligible to receive their first or second Moderna vaccine dose who have not yet chosen to do so.

    No appointment is needed.

    Station Manager Richard Williams, of Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service, said: "As a fire service we are dedicated to saving lives and serving our local community, so volunteering these stations as sites for local walk-in Covid-19 vaccination centres was an easy decision to make and we are glad to help."

    Dr Paddy Hannigan, clinical lead, added: "It is vitally important that as many people as possible receive their full Covid-19 vaccine, both for their own health and the safety of the wider community, so we want to make it as easy possible for everyone eligible to get both doses.

    "We understand that for some people making an appointment on weekdays or committing to a time, in general, may be difficult or inconvenient, so nationally and locally we introduced walk-in clinics."

    Police are appealing for witnesses after five people suffered serious injuries in a two-car crash in Herefordshire.

    Two people in their 70s had to be cut from a vehicle by fire crews after the incident on the B4204 in Upper Sapey, near Bromyard.

    Three people from a second vehicle were also taken to hospital after the crash on 25 September shortly after 12:45.

    All five remain in hospital, said West Mercia Police.
