Public interest in the whereabouts of gritters in Stoke-on-Trent has prompted the city council to launch a digital map where the fleet can be tracked.
As temperatures fall, the authority said it would update the map, external so people could view the routes the seven gritters took as they spread salt and plough snow.
"The gritters lay salt on almost 200 miles of roads across the city each time they go out, taking them between two and three hours to complete a full run," a council spokesperson said.
The gritters went out from 18:00 GMT on Monday.

Richard Calcott, from Whigginton Fields Farm, in Tamworth, thinks a potential shortage of supermarket turkeys is encouraging shoppers to buy locally.
It comes after a Worcestershire butcher halted her orders after seeing an increase in demand.
"[After] the lockdown of 2020, a lot of people turned to the farm shops and local family butchers who obviously again sourced their food locally and managed to keep the food chain going," Mr Calcott said.

A 28-year-old woman has been seriously injured in a crash in Staffordshire.
A black Vauxhall Insignia and a white Toyota Aygo were involved in a collision on the A51 Rugeley bypass between Station Road and Wolseley Road at about 10:50 BST on Sunday.
The woman, who was in the Vauxhall, was treated by paramedics at scene before being taken to hospital for serious injuries.
Two men were also taken to hospital after suffering minor injuries in the collision.
Warwickshire Police appealed for anyone with information to come forward.
A man is recovering in hospital after being stabbed in the chest and back.
The victim, in his 20s, was attacked at about 18:25 GMT on Sunday in Market Place, Burton-on-Trent.
The suspect is a 5ft 10in black male dressed in all black with a short Afro hairstyle, police said.
Extra patrols will be carried out in the area.

People planning to buy an e-scooter for Christmas to use in Wolverhampton are being urged to think again.
Use of the electric vehicles remains illegal on roads, cycle lanes and pavements in the city, the council warned.
An e-scooter trial is being operated in Birmingham, Coventry and Sandwell but does not include Wolverhampton.
Councillor Steve Evans said: "I would also urge people who are planning on buying an e-scooter this Christmas to think again, because they won’t be able to use them on our city’s roads at the current time.”
West Midlands Police backed the warning and said anyone found riding one illegally in the city could have it seized and crushed.
A farmer lost more than £7,000 after eight of his lambs and five of his ewes were killed when a man lost control of his dogs.
Staffordshire Police said the livestock were killed on a farm near Uttoxeter in April.
The two German Shepherds travelled for over a mile towards the field where they chased and attacked the flock of sheep inside.
Their 52-year-old owner was ordered to pay a fine, the force said, and was issued with a court order demanding he keep his dogs under control or else have them destroyed.

West Midlands Ambulance Service said it was was called to reports of an overturned car on Dagnall End Road at 23:20 GMT on Sunday.
Crews found two patients, it said, including a man who was outside the car.
He received specialist trauma care at the scene before being taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
A second man was taken to the same hospital but was not thought to be seriously injured.
Residents would have had to keep windows permanently shut to keep out noise, a report concludes.

Holiday cabins could be built on grazing land in Telford, if plans are approved
Developer Andrew Millward has applied to build the nine single-storey lodges on a 0.7-acre site near Waters Upton on the Newport to Shrewsbury road.
A design statement submitted on Mr Millward’s behalf says the cabins will be used throughout the year solely for short stays and said the guests it brings “will boost trade for retail outlets and visitor attractions”.
Telford and Wrekin Council’s planning department will make its decision at a later date.
