    The dumping of mud, excavated from the Hinkley Point C site in Somerset - will be debated in the Welsh National Assembly today.

    Campaigners originally launched a legal fight to stop 300,000 tonnes of mud being deposited in the Severn Estuary off Cardiff - claiming it could be a health risk.

    EDF which is building the nuclear plant say the mud has been fully tested and is safe to be dumped at sea.

    A "murder house" has been set up for students to practise forensic science at the University of Gloucestershire.

    For the first time those studying criminology can work in a realistic setting to learn how to gather evidence.

    Students can be monitored on how they're working through CCTV as they use tried-and-tested methods to collect samples - everything from blood, fingerprints, footprints and DNA.

    Student Nicole Sage said: "Every day you go into work, it'll be something completely different and I think there's a lot of techniques you can learn to be able to solve a crime."

    The second suspect in the Salisbury nerve agent attack was also a highly decorated officer in Russian military intelligence, it has been claimed.

    At a news conference in the Houses of Parliament on Tuesday, Cristo Grozev, an investigator for the Bellingcat website said Mishkin had received the award of Hero of the Russian Federation from President Vladimir Putin.

    Mr Grozev said the reporters from the Russian website The Insider had managed to reach Mishkin's home village of Loyga, where they spoke to seven people who confirmed his identity.

    "They confirmed that their homeboy Alexander Mishkin was the person who moved on to military school and then became a famous military doctor and who received the award of Hero of the Russian Federation personally from President Putin," he said.

    "His grandmother, with whom he grew up who happens to be a medical professional, has a photograph, in her own words, that has been seen by everybody in the village, of President Putin shaking Mishkin's hand and giving him the award."

  14. Wife on 999 call during 20-minute attackpublished at 13:16 British Summer Time 9 October 2018

    Police broke into a house in Somerset as a man was in the middle of attacking his wife, a court heard.

    Christopher Jansons, 63, from Cannington near Bridgwater, had a phone cord around his wife's neck when police burst into their home prompted by a 999 call.

    Jansons admitted false imprisonment and making threats to kill at Taunton Crown Court and was jailed for two years and eight months.

    The victim had called emergency services and the call was left open for 20 minutes during the attack before police arrived on the scene.

    Emergency services said there were no life-threatening injuries as a result of a serious crash on the A46 in Bath.

    Two cars, a lorry and a van were involved in the crash which led to a major diesel spillage.
