Mrs Hurford in West Coker, Somerset, has lived in the area for 30 years.
She has spent her morning outside with her hosepipe washing the mud from the road and the drains.
"I don't know if it's doing any good but I feel I'm trying.”
“It’s from the potatoes. They’ve got rid of all the crops because it’s the end of the season, so the soil is not bound together by crop roots so its just coming from the top of the hill."
“It’s never done this before. It’s quite therapeutic," she added.
Two pieces of news from Wiltshire.
We are told that Queens Drive in Swindon - which runs from close to the County Ground out towards Coate Water - is flooded.
Also Roves Farm in Swindon has had to close today due to flooding.
Paul Gentleman from GWR said no trains are running south of Taunton and they don't expect that to change until at least 12:00 GMT.
He also said there are some issues beyond Exeter as well - heading towards Plymouth.
GWR have also issued a 'do not travel' notice in Cornwall.
However, some trains north of Taunton are still running including the service to Cardiff Central via Bristol Temple Meads.
There are also some services to London Paddington via Reading but Mr Gentleman expressed they are "not the normal frequency" and they would urge anyone travelling to check before they do so.
Mr Gentleman said those with tickets for today and who do not wish to travel are being told their tickets will be valid for tomorrow.
"If you decide you don’t want to travel today and want a refund then obviously we will provide a refund as well," he added.
BBC West weather forecaster Ian Fergusson says there is currently a "pronounced lull in winds"... "as 'eye' of Ciaran passes eastwards".
But he says this will not last long with winds "ramping up" in the afternoon.
"Expect strong crosswind gusts e.g. for M5 especially the stretch WsM to Bridgwater until mid-afternoon."

The river in Martock has bursts its banks.
Flood warden Andrew Clegg said the "road which is now a river" is about two and three foot deep with flood water "for about a mile".
He told Matt Faulkner from BBC Radio Somerset: “This one blocks every time we get serious rain. We were expecting this to block that’s why I’m here early."
Mr Clegg is rescuing drivers who are stuck in the flood water, including a local post man.
“I’ve been here for hours,” said the post man.

Haygrove School in Bridgwater is closed today due to the stormy weather, including those who attend the temporary site at Bridgwater and Taunton College.
This is after the temporary classrooms at both sites were found to be a potential safety risk due to the storm.
Siobhan Wilson whose two children attend the school said the closure was "disruptive for the children".
“We have storms a lot in the West country and they can come at anytime all year round so it’s very disappointing that the new buildings are just as unsuitable and unsafe as the main building which is still not secured or scaffolded.
“My children went to school yesterday and they said the wind and the rain was starting and they could feel the buildings moving and because there’s very thin walls they could hear the rain, everything was magnified and it was very distracting."
These are the latest road closures from Somerset County Council

As you can see, there's flooding in Martock from the overnight rain.
We're also hearing of a landslip at West Chinnock between Scotts Way and Bow Bridge.
Traffic is flowing again on the M48 Severn Bridge - as you can see from the traffic cameras.
But down on the M5 near Taunton, you can see there's still a significant amount of surface water on the road.
Mike Rigby from Somerset Council told BBC Radio Somerset they've had "sporadic reports of trees down throughout the night" and "some flooding".
“We’ve had 30 incidents in total reported from about 10pm.
“We’ve had an increase in reports in the last few hours as the road network has become busier. Our crews are working through those as we speak."
“In the last hour or so we’ve had to close the A37 Ilchester road at Yeovil Marsh due to flooding. Our crews are in attendance there and we are hoping to have that open pretty soon.”
He said the council's gully emptier units were "prioritising sites that have flood risks to properties" and "working on the roads to try and keep those open".
The area around Martock has seen a number of road closures overnight.
Our reporter Matt Faulkner has been sending pictures back and will be live on BBC Radio Somerset during the morning.
One bit of good news. The A48 Severn Bridge is now open between England and Wales.
But, across in Wiltshire the rail line is flooded at Pewsey. There are currently no services between Westbury and Newbury. Services are being diverted instead and are going on the mainline via Swindon.
We're just hearing the A303 is partially closed between Sparkford and Wincanton.
It's the eastbound carriageway only but it is very likely to cause delays.
Mike Rigby, from Somerset County Council, says there have been 30 reports of road closures in the county overnight.
