  4. Stolen ride-on lawnmower leaves Chatteris football club without anywhere to playpublished at 17:49

    The theft of a ride-on lawnmower from the Chatteris Town Youth Football Club has left about 200 children unable to play matches.

    The club discovered the theft on Friday. 

    It now means they're unable to cut their pitches so the teams can play. Police have appealed for witnesses.

    Laura Quentin, from Peterborough, is one of 200 new recruits taken on by Govia Thameslink Railway to help solve the company’s driver shortage. The mother-of-three decided on a career change after working in the military. 

    The company runs trains from Peterborough and Cambridge.

  9. Closure of tax offices in Cambridgeshire will be 'devastating'published at 16:46

    The PCS Union which represents staff who could lose their jobs when tax offices in Cambridgeshire close say the plans are "devastating".

    Fifteen offices in the East of England may shut as part of HM Revenue and Custom's restructuring, external proposals. 

    PCS general secretary Mark Serwotka said: "Closing this many offices would pose a significant threat to the operation of HMRC, its service to the public and the working lives of staff."

    I've been looking at the figures to see how many people could be effected if local tax offices close.

    HM Revenue and Custom's are restructuring and it could mean 417 jobs could go in Cambridgeshire. 

    HMRC, external is looking at shutting their local offices and opening 13 regional offices instead.

    The woman whose dismembered remains were found in a suitcase in Peterborough needed stitches to a cut to her hand after she was struck with a golf club, a jury has heard.

    The torso of Ramute Butkiene, 42, was found in a suitcase at a house in Mayor's Walk on 5 June.

    Her friend Juolanda Tarailiene told Southwark Crown Court she had twice seen Ms Butkiene with injuries to her body. Vytautas Jokubauskas, 57, of Mayor's Walk, has admitted manslaughter but denies murder.

    A woman whose torso was found in a suitcase sounded "scared" during a phone call with her former boyfriend, a court has been told.

    The remains of Ramute Bukiene, 42, were found at a house in Mayor's Walk on 5 June.

    Her ex-boyfriend Adam Jedrzeyewski said the last time he heard from her, she rang him, "gave the impression she was scared" and ended the two minute call abruptly. Vytautas Jokubauskas, 57, of Mayor's Walk, has admitted manslaughter but denies murder.

  13. Poppy appeal donations nearly doubled in Wisbechpublished at 16:01

    We're moving on to news elsewhere in Cambridgeshire now. The Wisbech Royal British Legion have told us that donations to its annual poppy appeal have almost doubled to £28,000 this year.

    Last year the appeal collected £15,000.

    "The fans are the most important people at any club," he said. "The guys on the pitch need the fans in the stand."
