  8. Police officer 'lied' about Watford speedingpublished at 16:22 British Summer Time 5 September 2016

    Gail Sanderson
    BBC Three Counties Radio

A police misconduct hearing has heard how a Hertfordshire police officer apparently lied about his reasons for speeding on a road in Watford.

PC Steven Wall was caught by a speed camera doing 37mph in a 30mph zone on Rickmansworth Road. The hearing heard he told the control room he was trying to catch up with a vehicle on St Albans Road, but no siren or warning lights were activated.

The prosecution claims he simply found a parked car and radioed in its registration plate.

The officer denies gross misconduct after being accused of failing to act with honesty and integrity.

He's currently suspended from the Armed Policing Unit, which patrols Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire.

The hearing is due to last two days.

Judge John Plumstead at St Albans Crown Court said Chittock had decided to help himself to the home, but was caught in 2013 and jailed for fraud offences.

The court heard that upon his release from prison this year, Chittock devised a "cunning and sophisticated" plan to try and take possession of the house again. But the Land Registry smelt a rat and he was arrested in April.

Jailing him for four years for fraud by false representation, Judge Plumstead said: "I hope you have learned your lesson."

The court was told a distant relative of the house's former owner had been traced to Germany.
