  3. Messi and Bale shirts help leg loss footballer Shaun Whiterpublished at 08:42 British Summer Time 10 October 2016

Gareth Bale and Lionel Messi's signed shirts helped to raise more than £30,000 for an Essex estate agent who had both legs amputated.

Shaun Whiter was helping his friend Joey Abbs to change a tyre near Newmarket, Suffolk, when he was struck by a hit-and-run driver in July.

Messi's shirt fetched £2,100 while Bale's brought in £1,600 during a fundraising auction at Cambridge United at the weekend.

The 27-year-old thanked the professional footballers for their help and said he hoped the auction would "create awareness of disability in the area".

Jan Adamec, 40, of Shetland Road in Haverhill, was jailed for more than three years last month after admitting two counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

A stoppage-time free-kick for Blackpool saw Cambridge United take a share of the points away at Bloomfield Road.

The U's took the lead after 17 minutes thanks to a brilliant 20-yard free-kick from Luke Berry (pictured), curling the ball into the top right-hand corner of the goal.

The home side passed up a golden opportunity to equalise after 33 minutes when Danny Philliskirk's penalty was saved by goalkeeper Will Norris, with boss Shaun Derry calling him "the best goalkeeper in the division".

But the U's good luck finally ran out in the first minute of injury-time, as Blackpool's Andy Taylor curled home from 20 yards.

The 1-1 draw sees Cambridge move to 17th position in League Two.

  5. Posh back on form after home winpublished at 08:39 British Summer Time 10 October 2016

    Peter Swan
    BBC Radio Cambridgeshire sport

Peterborough United ended a run of six league games without a win as they came from behind to beat third-placed Bury 3-1 on Saturday.

The visitors went in front early on when defender Hayden White stabbed an angled drive into his own net.

But Chris Forrester levelled after a neat one-two in the box.

Two goals soon after half-time put Posh on top. Marcus Maddison (pictured) slotted home for his sixth of the season and Bury defender Antony Kay put through his own net as he tried to cut out Tom Nichols' cross.

Boss Grant McCann said it was a "good performance", commenting that the "game plan worked excellently".

Peterborough's victory lifted them from 13th to eighth, just one point outside the top six, while Bury's defeat was their third in a week.
