Cambridge moved into the League Two play-off places for the first time this season by beating Crewe 2-1 on Saturday.

Uche Ikpeazu gave the U's the lead six minutes into the second half, running onto Conor Newton's pass and firing a rising effort past the Crewe keeper.

Full-back Greg Taylor (pictured) doubled the lead on the hour, robbing Chris Dagnall and unleashing a stunning effort which flew home via the underside of the crossbar.

The U's are now seventh having been bottom until the end of September, which boss Shaun Derry says is an "unbelievable achievement".

"I'm so pleased for everybody connected to the football club, not least the players.

"We mustn't get carried away though," he said.

Peterborough United go into the Christmas break occupying the final play-off spot with a 2-0 victory away to Charlton.

Following early efforts from Shaquile Coulthirst and Leonardo Da Silva Lopes, Grant McCann's side deservedly took the lead after 21 minutes with Ryan Tafazolli (pictured) rising highest to nod in Paul Taylor's free-kick.

Peterborough doubled their advantage in the 66th minute courtesy of a superb Gwion Edwards solo effort to seal an impressive away victory.

McCann said it was a "great performance".

"I think for the last 30 minutes we controlled the game. Possibly could have had a couple more goals," he said.

"The players are starting to get a real belief now."

Peterborough United are back in action tomorrow evening with an FA Cup second round replay against Notts County. The winners of that game will face Premier League leaders Chelsea in January.

Some sad news to bring you this morning as a fawn born after its mother was hit by a car has died from a brain injury, animal rescuers have said.

You may recall the story from last week that a driver took the fawn's injured mother to Fenland Animal Rescue after finding her at the roadside in Cambridgeshire.

Unfortunately the fawn died on Friday from a brain injury most likely caused by the accident, a vet told rescuers.
