Meanwhile, this former Victorian railway station is a gem.

The Old North Road station near Longstowe closed in 1968, but was rescued by Stephen Owen 20 years ago.

He restored the platforms and signal box, and bought a train carriage for the old tracks - even purchasing new levers to work the old signal.

Mr Owen says he wanted to restore the once used station to its "former glory".

Discussions have started into how the Varsity Line linking Cambridge to Oxford could reopen.

There are also campaigns to reopen stations at Fulbourn and Soham, and it is hoped the Bramley Line could once again take people from March to Wisbech.

Last year a Network Rail study was commissioned into the feasibility of reopening Soham station. The results are expected early this year.

More than 80 stations have closed in Cambridgeshire since 1850, with most shutting in the 1950s and '60s.

Today many are derelict, although at least eight ticket offices have been turned into homes.

  3. No agreement on county council budgetpublished at 17:44 Greenwich Mean Time 24 January 2017

    Hannah Olsson
    BBC Radio Cambridgeshire political reporter

Today was the first time Cambridgeshire county councillors got to debate the budget for 2017-18.

As the council is under no overall control, as always there was a lot of political wrangling.

The council says it must save £100m over the next five years, and at today's General Purpose Committee each of the political parties set out how they would balance the books.

    County Council meeting

The parties all have different ideas on how much council tax bills should go up by:

    • UKIP are calling for no council tax rise
    • The Liberal Democrats are calling for a 2% council tax rise and a 2% rise in the adult social care precept
    • Labour are calling for a 2% council tax rise and a 3% rise in the adult social care precept
    • The Conservatives are calling for no council tax rise, but a 2% rise in the adult social care precept
    Papers showing different amendments

After four hours of debate, none of the amendments were accepted so the budget will be unapproved when it goes to the Full Council on 14 February.

Last year the meeting was 12 hours long and we're expecting another long night!

    What's your claim to fame?

Well, former Lib Dem MP Julian Huppert has a big one.

One of his relatives, Isabelle Huppert, has been nominated for Best Actress at the upcoming Oscars, for her part in Elle.

Pretty sweet, eh? Even better when you see she's up against Natalie Portman, Emma Stone, Meryl Streep and Ruth Negga.

We spoke to Mr Huppert, who said he was "delighted" with her nomination.

"She's an utterly phenomenal actress," said the former Cambridge MP.

"She doesn't get the recognition she deserves because she doesn't do many mainstream films.

    Julian Huppert

"I'm very proud and delighted. She's doing well. No-one compares to her."

Mr Huppert said his relationship to the actress was on his father's side.

He added that he'd also met his famous Hollywood relative on a number of occasions.

"She's come to stay before. I took her punting around 20 years ago," he said.

The winner will be announced when the Academy Awards ceremony comes around on 26 February.

    Adam Jinkerson
    BBC Local Live

It's understood that budget store Poundstretcher is preparing to move into half of a mothballed superstore in Chatteris, abandoned by Tesco two years ago.

    Empty Tesco unit

The planned store in the Fenland town was one of 49 projects called off by the supermarket chain, in response to a downturn in its financial fortunes.

    Empty Tesco unit

It cost £22m and was due to create 250 jobs for Chatteris, but Tesco never completed its move. It's remained empty since then.

  9. Cyclist confirmed dead in Newmarket crashpublished at 11:35 Greenwich Mean Time 24 January 2017

A cyclist has died following a serious road traffic collision in Newmarket.

Police were called by East of England Ambulance Service at 06:35 this morning to reports of a collision between a grey BMW 525 and a bicycle on the A1304 Barbara Stradbroke Avenue.

The cyclist – a man aged in his 30s – died at the scene of the collision.

A 22-year-old man from Newmarket has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving following this incident. He has been taken to Bury St Edmunds Police Investigation Centre for questioning.

The road is currently closed between the roundabout junction with the A1303 and Hamilton Road whilst a collision investigation takes place.

As a result there is no access into the west side of Newmarket from the A14 at Junction 36 and traffic will instead have to enter the town via the A142 at Junction 37. Motorists are advised to avoid the area if possible.

    Adam Jinkerson
    BBC Local Live

We spotted on social media that residents in the Weasenham Lane area of Wisbech were unable to report the leak in the road overnight to Anglian Water, due to the telephone number being out of use.

This tweet was sent yesterday night...

A spokesman for the water company confirmed the customer contact centre was affected by an "outage" yesterday evening.

"We are extremely sorry if any customers had problems getting in contact with us," he said.

The company said engineers were visiting properties to confirm if any were affected by a loss of water supply.

The road suffered a similar burst last Wednesday, although Anglian Water said today's burst was on a smaller pipe, which feeds fewer properties.

  11. Cambridgeshire MPs respond to Brexit rulingpublished at 11:10 Greenwich Mean Time 24 January 2017

    Hannah Olsson
    BBC Radio Cambridgeshire political reporter

No doubt you've seen in the national news the Supreme Court has ruled that Parliament must vote on whether the government can start the Brexit process.

The judgement means Theresa May cannot begin talks with the EU until MPs and peers give their backing.

This means our local MPs will get a vote on whether to trigger Article 50.

They've been having their say on Twitter...

Labour MP Daniel Zeichner, who represents Cambridge, previously revealed he would vote against triggering Article 50, while Tory MP Heidi Allen, who represents South Cambs, said she would wait for the Supreme Court ruling before making a decision.

Both Cambridge and South Cambs voted "remain" in the EU referendum.

  13. Wisbech burst pipe is 'different' to last week's leakpublished at 10:46 Greenwich Mean Time 24 January 2017

    Adam Jinkerson
    BBC Local Live

A bit more information now on the burst water pipe in Wisbech.

Anglian Water says this burst is on a different section of pipe to the previous leak on Weasenham Lane last Wednesday.

Police say the pipe is a main water line into a business premises near Algores Way adjacent to the affected road, although this is yet to be confirmed by Anglian Water.

The water company says it will be working to repair the leak today and a traffic light system will be in place, so expect delays in the area.

We also asked them about why Wisbech has had a flurry of burst pipes over the past few days. A spokesman said: "Bursts and leaks can happen more often at this time of year, as the freezing temperatures causes the ground to move, damaging water pipes in the ground."
