A Cambridgeshire businessman says "it just isn't worth it" to have cash machines on his premises anymore.

Steve Highland who runs four petrol stations has taken machines out as one was "attacked three times" and another building was so severely damaged when thieves tried to rip one out, he has forced to close for five months so the building could be repaired.

It comes after thieves attempted, but failed, to steal a cash machine from the High Street in Chatteris in the early hours of Wednesday, making it the seventh such incident in Cambridgeshire since December.

  9. 'Professor of innovation' needed at universitypublished at 17:39 British Summer Time 26 April 2017

    Adam Jinkerson
    BBC Local Live

You've heard of the "professor of play" and the "doctor of chocolate".

Now applications are open for a new "professor of innovation" at the University of Cambridge, to try and find the next generation of inventors.

The role was created after inventor Dr John Taylor donated £2.5m to the university to create the post.

Dr Taylor, one of the most successful British inventors of the last 50 years, attended Corpus Christi College in the 1950s.

He was responsible for revolutionising the way electric kettles worked and now has more than 400 patents to his name.

The new role will combine teaching and research to help young engineers design the tech of the future.

Dr Taylor said he wants the university to "build on the great track record the UK has for inventors".

"Innovation is no longer just for the elite in business; it has become the norm," he said.

"In order to stay ahead, it’s important that not only do we innovate, we do it better than anyone else."

  14. How to make everyone hate you on emailpublished at 13:49 British Summer Time 26 April 2017

Stop before you copy your boss into that email...

A study by a professor at the University of Cambridge has found it's not going to make you look good and it's going to make everyone else in the office distrust you.

The research into the pernicious "CC-effect" was carried out by David De Cremer, a professor of management studies at Cambridge University's Judge Business School.

Prof De Cremer has looked into the emotional undergrowth of office email traffic.

When people copy in a manager, it doesn't create "transparency" but feeds a "culture of fear", he said.

  17. 'Business is down' following parking machine changepublished at 12:39 British Summer Time 26 April 2017

    Adam Jinkerson
    BBC Local Live

A business owner situated near one of the streets affected by the removal of cash payment parking machines in Cambridge says the change has hit his business.

The ability to pay by cash was removed from four parking spots in Cambridge - Castle Hill, Adam and Eve Street, Riverside and Gwydir Street.

The decision was made by Cambridgeshire County Council after two machines were stolen that contained £200.

Stephen Hunt, from Cambridge Antiques Centre near to Gwydir Street, said the change had "greatly influenced" the amount of business he'd done recently.

"The business in the approximate four weeks that it's been taking place is down 32%," Mr Hunt told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire.

"You can't absolutely say that it's 100% down to that, but it's greatly influenced by the lack of people being able to park in Gwydir Street."

The council said the change was to "reduce the risk of similar crimes in future".

  18. Removal of cash payment to park to be made permanentpublished at 11:15 British Summer Time 26 April 2017

The idea has been trialled since last month and will now continue.

Drivers will now only be able to pay by card or phone for parking spots at Castle Hill, Adam and Eve Street, Riverside and Gwydir Street (pictured).

Cambridge City Council said the change was to "reduce the risk of similar crimes in future".
