  8. Why a Christmas tree?published at 16:50 British Summer Time 25 April 2017

    Adam Jinkerson
    BBC Local Live

The topping out ceremony at the new AstraZeneca building on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus took place earlier on, marking the highest point of construction being completed.

And the eagle-eyed viewer among you may have noticed a rather out-of-place object... a Christmas tree.

    Christmas tree hanging

So why does a Christmas tree hang at the ceremony?

Well, as also seen here at the topping out of the new Papworth Hospital late last year, the tradition dates back to an ancient Scandinavian religious ritual of placing a tree on top of a new building.

It's to satisfy the "tree-dwelling spirits" disturbed by its construction.

The topping out ceremony - the point where the construction reaches its highest point - has taken place at the new £500m AstraZeneca building on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus.

The project, which has been slightly delayed, is due to be completed in late 2018.

Here are some of pictures of its construction, including a time-lapse of the site and some artist impressions of what it will look like...

  10. AstraZeneca move costs increasepublished at 15:55 British Summer Time 25 April 2017

    Richard Bond
    BBC Look East business correspondent

The move of drug giant AstraZeneca to the biomedical campus in Cambridge will take longer and cost more than first expected, it has been revealed.

The news comes as the topping out ceremony took place at the drugmaker's new building near Addenbrooke's Hospital.

    Topping out ceremony at AstraZeneca

Initially thought to cost about £330m when the move was first proposed, that figure will now rise to £500m due to increased expenditure on new technology and equipment.

The opening of the building is also delayed, with staff not expected to start moving in until late 2018. It is expected to be fully operational in 2019.

Chief executive Pascal Soriot said the delay was "relatively marginal".

"It's a little bit delayed but a site of that size always has issues," he said.

"We have made enormous progress in the last three years and it is building very quickly."

The site is set to employ 2,000 staff, most of which are already based in Cambridge.

Mr Soriot said the plan was to slightly increase that number once the building was open.

The Hertfordshire computer hacker Adam Mudd has been sentenced to two years in a young offenders institute after pleading guilty to computer hacking offences.

Judge Michael Topolski said he took into account the defendant's diagnosis of autism in his sentencing.

But the judge also drew attention to the "truly world-wide nature of this kind of criminality" and said the defendant's offences had caused "great and lasting damage".

Mr Topolski added: "He knew full well he was committing serious crime and in doing so was taking a risk with his liberty."

The Old Bailey heard Mudd, 20, of Toms Lane, Kings Langley created the Titanium Stresser "malware" in 2013, when he was 16 years old, and sold it to cyber criminals across the world.

The programme had 112,000 registered users who were responsible for about 1.7 million "distributed denial of service" attacks on websites, including gaming sites such as RuneScape, Minecraft and Xbox Live.

The court heard there were about 25,000 attacks on RuneScape and the company which owns it spent £6m trying to defend itself.

Prosecutors said Mudd carried out 594 attacks himself, including one on West Herts College, where he was studying computer science.

Other attacks including websites belonging to the University of Cambridge, UEA and University of Essex.
