  2. Simon Dobbin attack: Jury told majority verdict will be acceptedpublished at 11:27 British Summer Time 14 July 2017

A jury at Basildon Crown Court has been told a majority verdict will be accepted rather than a unanimous verdict in the trial of 13 men accused of conspiring to commit violent disorder.

The group of Southend United fans were charged over an attack on Cambridge United fan Simon Dobbin, who was left unable to walk or talk after being assaulted in Southend in 2015.

Judge Pugh said he would accept a majority verdict from the jury if at least 10 of its members were in agreement. The jury has been deliberating for 17 hours.

The energy they generate would supply electric car charging points and LED lights in the car park, with any excess energy being sold to the electricity grid.

Now it's a matter of funding. A bid has gone in to the European Regional Development Fund to pay for 50% of the cost. The county council will then invest the other half.

Over time, the aim is to recoup the investment through sale of electricity.

The pilot project will be three times bigger than the current largest solar car port in the country in Nottingham, external, and if successful will be rolled out to sites around the county.

  18. Plans to stop IVF treatment in countypublished at 14:38 British Summer Time 13 July 2017

A series of public meetings held by the NHS is under way, about plans to stop all state-funded fertility treatment in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough.

The area's Clinical Commissioning Group currently offers one treatment cycle to women under 40.

That would be stopped, aside from two exceptions, to save £700,000-a-year.

IVF treatmentImage source, Science Photo Library

    Those exceptions would be...

    • To patients undergoing cancer treatments, or who have a disease or a condition that has a significant likelihood of making them infertile
    • To men who have a chronic viral infection, primarily HIV and whose female partner does not, as a risk reduction measure

Some parts of neighbouring Suffolk and Essex still offer two rounds, and the guidance from the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence is three full cycles.

The proposed policy would still allow for patients to be referred from their GP to their local hospital for investigation into their infertility.

However it would no longer allow for people requiring IVF treatments to be referred from the local hospital to the specialist fertility services for treatments funded by the NHS, apart from the exceptions.

This evening's meeting is in Huntingdon - with more meetings in Ely and Cambridge next week. Full details here, external.

  20. New MP 'racially abused'published at 13:20 British Summer Time 13 July 2017

    Paul Stainton
    BBC Radio Cambridgeshire

The MP for Peterborough says she's been racially abused, with a number of offensive messages being left on her phone's voicemail.

Fiona Onasanya, who won the seat for Labour in last month's election, is one of 52 MPs categorised as Black and Ethnic Minority (BAME).

She told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire that the abuse, first reported in the Peterborough Telegraph, external, "is not appropriate or acceptable".

    Fiona Onasanya

"Some individuals have a very small mind. It needs to be known that any abuse or discrimination against any individual is unacceptable," said Ms Onasanya.

"It's a very small minority of people that think it's acceptable behaviour, but they hide behind the mask of 'I'm a keyboard warrior' or 'I can withhold my number and you can't find me'.

"I did speak to the police and they are going to be liaising with the individual concerned."
