    A man has appeared before magistrates in Coventry charged with dangerous driving and driving whilst disqualified - in connection with a police pursuit in the city. 

    Tony Berrill, 24, of no fixed address, is accused of failing to stop for police earlier this week. 

    A 19-year-old in the car was cautioned for possession of cannabis. Another three people were released without charge.

  2. Rail line closed for bridge repairpublished at 13:53 British Summer Time 7 October 2016

    A railway bridge near Henley-in-Arden is being replaced by Network Rail engineers, external this weekend.

    The £2m upgrade, on a road beneath the line at Blunts Green, Warwickshire, requires a full closure of the line between Stratford-on-Avon and Birmingham Snow Hill stations from late Friday night to early Monday morning.

    A woman believed by her company to be among the UK's first female coach drivers is taking her foot off the pedal after 60 years in the holiday trade.

    Joan Johnson of Henley-in-Arden's Johnsons Coach and Bus Travel joined the business in 1956, combining office work and driving when the fleet consisted of three coaches, a taxi and a furniture removal lorry.

    In 1981, she branched out to become a holiday courier - and is estimated to have clutched her clipboard during 350 tours of Britain and the continent. 

    Joan, 80, said: "I have enjoyed every minute of it and will miss working with our friendly drivers, lovely customers and all the friends I have made over the years."

  6. Former MEP claims Woolfe incident is 'not a one off'published at 12:45 British Summer Time 7 October 2016

    The former West Midlands UKIP MEP Nikki Sinclaire says when she was a member of the party she witnessed violent behaviour at party meetings.

    And she described the confrontation yesterday, which left MEP Steven Woolfe needing hospital treatment, as "not very edifying".

    Ms Sinclaire left the party in 2010 after a difference of opinion over the party's direction and she said there was a lot of frustration among members, because it was a "melting pot" of people from different political backgrounds.

    But her claims were disputed by current UKIP MEP Roger Helmer, who said he had never seen violent confrontations between UKIP representatives.

    A man has been arrested in connection with an abduction of a young girl , externalin Staffordshire in 2001. 

    Staffordshire Police say the man, in his 70s, from Warwickshire, is currently in custody. 

    The force says he was arrested in connection with the abduction of the six-year-old in Barton-under-Needwood 15 years ago.

    The 12 nets donated to Twycross Zoo are now in the chimpanzee, gorilla, orangutan and bonobo enclosures.

    Simon Childs from the zoo says: “These nets have been fantastic in enriching the habitats for our apes, giving them more usable and complicated environments off the ground. We can now scatter some of their snacks on the nets, making them climb up and encouraging them to move as they would in the wild.”

    The nets were previously used to safely restrain military equipment in RAF transport aircraft on military exercises and operations all around the world.

    The head of Coventry's funeral directors association says a proposed 39% rise in funeral and cremation fees by Coventry Council "takes some believing".

    President of the Coventry District Funeral Directors, Andrew Pargetter, said: "I couldn't put my prices up 39% in one go."

    The proposed charge is part of a raft of planned price hikes for burials and cremations in the city, including a fine for overrunning services.

    "It's not very nice thinking at the end of the day you've got to turn around and say - sorry you've overrun your time and you've got to pay another £158," he said.

    Coventry City Council says the rises are to cover costs of running bereavement services and to bring fees and charges in line with surrounding local authorities.

    Premiership Rugby has criticised England boss Eddie Jones' decision to hold a full-on three-day training camp between Premiership matches this week.

    However, two-time Olympic judo medallist Kate Howey, one of the coaches used by England, expects head coach Jones to continue using the sport in training.
