  6. Investigation launched into Sky Blues pitch invasionpublished at 17:45 Greenwich Mean Time 16 December 2016

    Last night's pitch invasion during the Coventry City match against Sheffield United is being investigated by the police.

    They say no arrests were made during the course of the game but they'll be reviewing CCTV to "identify anyone who stepped over the mark".

    A man from Rugby has been charged with two counts of burglary, police say., external

    The 24-year old was charged in connection with incidents at houses in Bilton Road earlier this month and in Bracken Drive in September. 

    He's been remanded in custody and is due at Warwick Crown Court in the New Year.

    This picture of a hummingbird hawk-moth by a Leamington teenager was commended by judges in the RSPCA's Young Photographer Awards.

    Owen Gee, who's 17, said he took the image - titled Draw the Long Straw - whilst on holiday in Corfu last year.

    Well, Civic Centre 4 - as it's officially known - has been sold by the council to Coventry University, although they are still leasing the building.

    Their plan is to develop the site, along with three other civic centres, creating a new facilities complex.

  12. MP wins libel case against Iranian state-owned TV channelpublished at 16:19 Greenwich Mean Time 16 December 2016

    The Conservative MP for Stratford-upon-Avon has won a High Court libel case against Iranian broadcaster Press TV.

    Nadhim Zahawi said the state-owned news channel posted an article about him in July 2015 on its English language website that implied he facilitated the trade of oil between ISIL and the State of Israel.

    The MP, who is of Kurdish background and was born in Iraq, said the "ludicrous allegation" was "clearly calculated to be as damaging as possible".

    The Iranian broadcaster did not defend the libel action, and the High Court will rule on damages and costs at a later hearing.

    The student occupation of building has come to a "peaceful conclusion" says the University of Warwick., external

    A group of students have been staging an occupation in the Slate Building since 2 December.

    Vice chancellor, Stuart Croft, has written to students and said the university will be removing an injunction on peaceful demonstrations on campus, put in place after a demonstration in 2014.

    Households in Rugby are to have their green waste collected from January, a month earlier than expected. , external

    The collections were suspended by Rugby Borough Council in an effort to save money, but it says a funding agreement has been reached with the county council to help fund the collections.

    Coventry could be hardest hit by cuts to international student visas according to a report by the Centre for Cities., external

    It says plans for the government  to cut international student visas could have big implications for the city where the foreign student economy is estimated to be worth £123m.

    According to the research Coventry has the largest number of foreign students with almost a third of those studying in the city being from outside of the UK. 

    As was the case in most cities, China was the most common country of origin, with a quarter of all foreign students in Coventry being Chinese.
