Warwickshire's 39 children's centres will see their collective budget cut by £1.1m by 2019.

The measures are contained in a joint Labour-Conservative budget,  approved by councillors at Shire Hall yesterday.

The saving is significantly lower than planned and formed the crux of a deal with Labour. Green Party members and the Liberal Democrats voted against the plans.

"I suspect some will close," Leamington North's Liberal Democrat councillor Sarah Boad told BBC Coventry and Warwickshire. She said children's centres were the Lib Dems' "absolute number one priority" and a one-off payment could have been used to delay the cut.

"Many children here are in need," she said, "children with serious illnesses are all picked up in the children's centre. If it's open less, those things will not happen."
