  1. Snooker bar bosses 'assist police with murder inquiry'published at 13:33 Greenwich Mean Time 1 March 2017

    The snooker hall in Coventry where a man died following an attack in which he was punched to the ground are assisting police with their inquiries.

    Patrick Redmond, 68, from Coundon, was assaulted at Rileys, in Hertford Place, just before 23:00 on Monday.  

    A spokeswoman for Rileys said: "The police are currently investigating the incident and we have provided them with CCTV footage and statements from our staff."

    Drivers caught using a phone within two years of passing their test will have their licence revoked under new rules in England, Scotland and Wales.

    Penalties for using a phone at the wheel double from 1 March to six points and a £200 fine.

    Twycross Zoo will be finding a new home for its four female Asian elephants...

    The zoo has released a statement saying they hope this will allow the animals to breed, ensuring their long-term survival.

    Esha was the last baby elephant to be born at the zoo in 2014 - she was conceived artificially.

    To have a male elephant on the site the zoo would need a separate enclosure.

    More than 2,000 new homes for greenbelt land on the edge of Coventry are expected to be approved by council planners later this month. , external

    Opposition Conservative councillors say the government's planning inspector's only recommending minor changes to the local plan. 

    It includes building around Eastern Green on land that's been re-designated and is no longer considered Green belt.

    The Sky Blues are 14 points adrift at the bottom of League One after going down 2-1 to Bury. 

    Stuart Beavon scored the only City goal in the game but despite having more of the play, they couldn't force a winner.

  7. Man seriously injured after hit by carpublished at 09:25 Greenwich Mean Time 1 March 2017

    A man is being treated for serious injuries in hospital after he was hit by a car in Coventry last night.

    The man, believed to be in his 20s was his by a car on Foleshill Road at about 18:45.

    West Midlands Ambulance Service says , external the man was treated for multiple serious injuries to his head, pelvis, shoulder blade and leg. 

    He was taken to University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire, where he is currently being treated.

  8. 'Don't post pictures of alleged criminals' warn police after residents take to social media published at 09:02 Greenwich Mean Time 1 March 2017

    Police patrols have been stepped up in a Coventry suburb in response to a steep rise in vehicle crime and burglaries. 

    People in the eastern Green and Allesley areas of the city have taken to warning locals on social media after cars and homes were broken in to over the past few weeks

    The police has urged people not to post pictures of alleged offenders.

    If victims have previously seen an image of someone who has committed a crime it actually jeopardises the entire investigation. A recent case, two images of children were recently posted on social media of them committing criminal damage at an allotment but it led to threats to kill the two children and their families. It generated significant more demand to the police than the initial damage.

    A 68-year-old man has died after being assaulted in a snooker hall in Coventry. , external

    Patrick Redmond, from Coundon, was punched to the floor at Riley’s Snooker Hall, Hertford Place on Monday at about 23:00.

    West Midlands Police say he was taken to hospital with serious head injuries but his life support was switched off yesterday as "sadly nothing could be done to save him".

    A 37-year-old man has been re-arrested on suspicion of murder after originally being arrested on suspicion of wounding Mr Redmond.
