    Details of a new restaurant hub for Rugby, in the former Swan Centre, have been announced after planning permission was given by local councillors.

    At least four big chains are expected to open in the Chapel Street Dining complex, on the site of the former Co-op building.

    Town centre management company, Rugby First, says work on the multi-million pound development should start very soon with the scheme due to open in the summer of 2017.

  2. Britain's Got Talent finalist got vulnerable boy drunk at his flat, court told published at 14:00 Greenwich Mean Time 27 February 2017

    A dancer who reached the final of Britain's Got Talent in 2007 got a vulnerable teenager so drunk that an ambulance had to be called, a jury has heard.

    Leeroy Bailey, 35, is on trial at Warwick Crown Court and denies one charge of neglecting a child in a manner likely to cause suffering or injury to health, alleged to have occurred in February this year. 

    Bailey is said, by prosecutors, to have plied the child with vodka and beer after inviting the youngster to his flat to watch a film or play video games.

    The teenager, who had a bad reaction to the alcohol, was found by paramedics "being sick into a toilet", said the prosecution, and spent the night at hospital under observation.

    Coventry Bees promoter says he's been left feeling "shocked" by the news the team won't be racing this year.

    The British Speedway Promoters Association has put their licence on ice over fears they won't be able to complete their fixture list with no permanent home track.

    Mick Horton told BBC Coventry and Warwickshire he's not speaking publicly until he's taken legal advice but would be willing to sell the club to someone who could keep it going.

    Swindon Town has issued an appeal for information after its captain was burgled during Saturday's away match against Coventry City. 

    Thieves ransacked Nathan Thompson's home stealing wedding rings for his impending wedding and other items of sentimental value.

    He says he and his fiancee are " utterly devasted" by what's happened.

    Difficult driving conditions are being forecast by the Met Office for most of the West Midlands due to ice. 

    They've issued a yellow weather warning, running from 18:00 this evening until 10:00 tomorrow. 

    The Met Office says temperatures will fall below zero tonight on the back of showers today and into the night.

  8. Birmingham Airport warns holidaymakers to plan journeys ahead of roadworks published at 11:03 Greenwich Mean Time 27 February 2017

    Holidaymakers are being warned to leave extra time to arrive for flights as Birmingham Airport is today beginning weeks of work on roads around its site.

    Work will be carried out on passenger drop-off facilities to prepare the airport for its "peak summer season" until 19 May,  the airport said, external .

    Lane 1 of Airport Way will be closed, between the Bird Island Roundabout and the Hermes Roundabout. From Monday 13 March until Saturday 29 April, lane 1 will be closed on Concorde Road between the Hermes Roundabout and the drop and go exit.

    The footway/cycleway along Airport Way will also be closed as part of the improvements and users will be directed through Car Park 5 for the duration.

    Fijian centre Gabiriele Lovobalavu will join Wasps ahead of the 2017/18 season, says the club., external

    The 31-year-old has won 22 caps for his country and represented Fiji in the last three Rugby World Cups. He will join from current club Bayonne.

    He'll head to Wasps over the summer, when Samoan international centre Alapati Leiua moves to Bristol Rugby, while Scotland centre Nick De Luca has announced he will retire from professional rugby at the end of the season.

    Almost a quarter of trains run by operator London Midland were more than five minutes late last week.

    The firm has  tweeted its latest punctuality level figures, with only 76%, external of its 6,490 trains arriving within five minutes of their scheduled times.

    It's the lowest percentage for any operator in February, external and is well below the 84% average across the UK.

    The operator say almost a quarter of the delays last week were "London Midland related", with 77% due to "other issues".

    Coventry Bees will not be allowed to race in 2017 , the British Speedway Promoters' Association has announced.

    The Bees were due to ride in the Premiership, the top flight of British speedway, but have been unable to agree a deal to stay at their Brandon home.

    Although an agreement was in place to stage some meetings in Leicester, the BSPA said they were not satisfied that Coventry could fulfil a full season.
