    The number of child sex offences recorded in the West Midlands has doubled, according to the National Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Children.  , external

    Between 2014 and 2015 there were 1,265 cases. 

    Last year, that number rose to more than 2,500.

    The charity says a number of factors could have led to the rise, including:

    • Police forces improving their recording of offences
    • Young people more confident reporting abuse
    • Online grooming

  3. Tel Aviv's city hall lit up with British flagpublished at 09:22 Greenwich Mean Time 23 March 2017

    MP for North Warwickshire Craig Tracey tweeted he was "moved" by a gesture of solidarity from Tel Aviv.

    The mayor of the city Ron Huldai said on Twitter: "#TelAviv City Hall lit up tonight in colours of the Union Jack, in solidarity with the city of #London and my colleague @SadiqKhan".

  4. London attack: Eyewitness recalls 'harrowing' scenespublished at 09:05 Greenwich Mean Time 23 March 2017

    A man who witnessed the London terror attack has described the scenes around Westminster yesterday as "harrowing".

    Rob Lyon, 34, from Rugby, was walking along Westminster Bridge with a colleague when he saw the car travelling at high-speed, hitting pedestrians. 

    "I heard a wheel definitely hit a kerb, quite a loud crunch noise" he said, "I looked up and saw a car clearly hitting people as it came towards me". 

    "A colleague I was with, James, I heard him sort of shout. I instinctively jumped off the pavement. I could see people being hit. And then the car just carried on up the bridge and I just looked around and was really in shock." 

    He said he saw  people lying on the ground around him. "(I saw) people that had been hit by a car at speed - it was harrowing," he said.

    The MP for Stratford-upon-Avon, Nadhim Zahawi,  has paid tribute to the police officer killed in Westminster during yesterday's terror attack.

    Four people died including PC Keith Palmer, who was stabbed by the attacker.

    He was a "protective cordon for us in Parliament", he said "he laid down his life to keep us all safe".

    "As we left last night the route was lined by his colleagues, and no words can describe the emotions that we all felt."

    "All we could say to them was thank you."

    The Conservative was being interviewed by BBC Radio Gloucestershire when police told him to leave his office.

    A leading Coventry councillor is calling on passengers to use black cabs built in the city.

    Councillor Jayne Innes, cabinet member for city services, says the vehicles are not only "safe" but they also support Coventry's "proud manufacturing history". 

    It comes on the day the London Taxi Company opens a multimillion-pound plant at Antsy dedicated to making nothing but electric vehicles.

    The two acts join The Stranglers, The Darkness and Tom Clarke at the annual Coventry event in July. 

    Lee House, events manager at Coventry City Council, says the latest additions to the line-up will be joined by more "really exciting names" to be announced in due course.

    The chairman of Coventry Rugby Club has confirmed they have had discussions about a possible ground share, external with Coventry City.

    The Sky Blues chairman, Tim Fisher, has said the Butts Park Arena is being considered as a short-term and long-term venue.

    In a statement on the rugby club's website, Jon Sharp has said there are many obstacles in the way of a ground share, but they could be cleared if the idea has the support of the city council.

    North West Leicestershire MP Andrew Bridgen has just been speaking about the current lockdown at Parliament. 

    "As a parliamentarian we know that this is a high risk environment," Mr Bridgen told 96-106 Capital FM., external

    "It is a clear potential terrorist target for various groups and even knowing that and coming to work and seeing the security it is still a bit numbing when it actually happens. 

     "It is slightly surreal here in parliament at the moment."

    A police officer has been stabbed in the Houses of Parliament , Commons Leader David Lidington has said.

    He told MPs the "alleged assailant was shot by armed police" following a "serious" incident.

    I've been in contact with Colleen Fletcher, the MP for Coventry North East, who says her journey to London was delayed "because of the London Taxi Company launch in Coventry". 

    She was on the train to Westminster but has since been told the Tube train isn't stopping there and she's now "stuck at Victoria Station".
