    Proposals that could re-draw the political map in North Warwickshire are going to be debated in Atherstone tonight. 

    An extraordinary meeting of North Warwickshire Borough Council is being held to look at responses to the Boundary Commission's proposed changes - due to come in in 2018. 

    If eventually approved by Parliament, two existing wards where councillors are elected to the borough council would be moved to the North Warwickshire parliamentary constituency. 

    At the moment they vote for the Nuneaton MP.

    Port Vale remain two points from safety after losing at League One's bottom side Coventry last night.

    The Vale went 2-0 down inside the first-half, before defender Nathan Smith got a goal back with 16 minutes to go. 

    The defeat increases the threat of relegation to League Two for Port Vale as they are still in the bottom-four, with two games in hand on Shrewsbury Town in 20th.

  4. New £300m London Taxi Company plant opens to make only electric vehicles published at 08:40 Greenwich Mean Time 22 March 2017

    A new £300m car plant dedicated to producing electric vehicles has opened by the London Taxi Company.

    It is also the first vehicle manufacturing site -  in Coventry - to be opened in over a decade.

    The company faced administration in 2013 until China's Zhejing Geely Holding Group stepped in.

    More than 1,000 jobs, including 200 engineers and 30 apprenticeships, have been created by the opening of the plant. 

    The new electric taxi will go on sale in London towards the end of 2017, and then around the world in early 2018.

    Geely said 5,000 vehicles a year will be produced by 2019.

    Three men have been bailed following reports of burglary in Wishaw on Saturday night, police say. 

    Officers were called to the property after a homeowner was woken to the sound of someone breaking in.

    A man was arrested in a nearby layby and two others were found in bushes after a police hunt.

    Police have issued more details about a car chase that ended in a two-car crash in Bedworth earlier.

    • The Warwickshire force, along with Central Motorway Policing Group were involved in the pursuit of a car, they say they believed to be wanted in connection with criminal activity.
    • The chase began on the M6 in north Warwickshire and ended in a two-vehicle crash at the junction of Colombia Gardens and Bulkington Road.
    • The driver of a Mercedes, a man in his 50s, suffered minor injuries and was taken to hospital
    • The driver of the Ford Focus left the scene and officers conducted a search aided by the police helicopter.
    • No one was arrested, and all roads have re-opened.
    • The case will be investigated by the force's professional standards team.

    A group of parents of children with Down's syndrome had these pictures taken to show children they "have the power to do anything" and to raise awareness about the condition. 

    The exhibition is on at the Royal Spa Centre in Leamington, and will then move to University Hospital in Coventry and Warwick Arts Centre from May.

      Work is well under way on the new Kenilworth railway station.  

    The £12m project will see an hour shuttle service between Coventry and Leamington Spa, although calls have been made for a 30-minute frequency service for the full potential of the new station to be achieved.  , external

  17. City firm awarded funds to trial driverless pods in Australia published at 16:45 Greenwich Mean Time 21 March 2017

    A driverless vehicle manufacturer, based in Coventry, has received a A$1m (£620,000) grant from the South Australian Government to allow trials of its technology to go ahead in the country.

    The RDM Group said the money would also help establish the company's first international facility at Flinders University campus at Tonsley. 

    The 'Pod Zero' can seat four or eight people and can operate for up to eight hours or 50 miles (80 km).

    The company also builds the Lutz Pathfinder vehicles which are to  be tested on the streets of Milton Keynes and Coventry.

    A man who sent money to fund his brother's quest to fight with Islamic extremists in Syria, has been jailed for four years and eight months, police say., external

    Engineer Nadeem Hussain, 36 from Threadneedle Street, Coventry, previously pleaded guilty at Kingston Crown Court to three counts of being concerned in arrangements to make money available for the purposes of terrorism.  

    Hussain admitted sending his brother, Naweed Hussain, money via transfer bureaus in Coventry over a three-day period in April last year.
