A yellow warning for ice , externalhas been issued for parts of the West Midlands from 21:00 today to 10:00 on Saturday.

It's expected to be a cloudy and cold day with some rain that could turn into sleet later and highs of 5C (41F).

A construction site is being prepared for a tunneling machine to dig under a Warwickshire wood as part of the HS2 high-speed rail project.

The machine will excavate a one-mile twin tunnel under Long Itchington wood before the route heads north and links to Birmingham's Curzon Street Station.

The 2,000-tonne tunnel boring machine is due for delivery on site in early 2021, with the tunnel set to be completed by mid 2022.

The tunnel will be around 9-10 metres in diameter, said HS2 Ltd.

The car was found partly submerged in the river by a member of the public.

It looks set to be an unsettled day with showery outbreaks of rain for many areas and highs of 5°C 41°F).

Depending on where you are in the West Midlands, you're either waking up in a tier two or a tier three area this morning.

The Shropshire, Telford, Herefordshire, Worcestershire and East Cheshire local authority areas have left lockdown under tier two restrictions.

All the other parts of the West Midlands, including Warwickshire, which had previously been in tier one, are now under tier three restrictions.

Temperatures should stay above freezing, but not by much.

And we could have a few showers later too.

Tonight it will remain cold and tomorrow we're expecting more showers.

The decision to put Stratford-on-Avon under the highest coronavirus restrictions from this morning could end up in court.

The district council is warning it'll take the decision to put the area into tier three to a judicial review if it's not reconsidered.

The Conservative-led authority said infection rates aren't high enough to warrant the restrictions and is calling the decision "irrational", claiming it has it's devastated hospitality businesses.

Businesses hope for a positive few weeks before Christmas as they reopen after lockdown.

Stratford-on-Avon District Council's leader says the data does not "warrant" the decision.

A move from tier three to tier two restrictions across Coventry, Solihull and Warwickshire could be a "realistic" hope before Christmas, according to West Midlands Mayor Andy Street.

The government has said the tiers will be reviewed on 16 December.

Mr Street's comments were made at a regional coronavirus briefing on Friday afternoon.

In Warwickshire, restrictions have jumped from tier one pre-lockdown to tier three and the leaders of two district councils have written to the government in protest.

Coventry and Warwickshire were "much closer to the tier two threshold," than other parts of the region, said Mr Street.

“It has been said by ministers that that was a finely balanced call so I think it is still realistic for that area of the region to hope there will be a change pre-Christmas.

"But it will all still be dependent on the five indicators and them continuing to move in the right direction.”

Traders and MPs say they are baffled as Warwickshire faces the strictest restrictions post-lockdown.
