  2. New Covid-19 test centre openspublished at 12:31 British Summer Time 21 October 2020

    A new Covid-19 test centre has opened in Leamington today.

    The site on Court Street will be available to residents who have booked a test in advance, Warwick District Council said, external.

    Infection rates in the area have increased to 141.2 per 100,000 people in the seven days to 16 October, compared with 109.2 for the week before.

    While in Staffordshire, plans have been approved for a drive-through test centre at the Royal Stoke University Hospital.

    Stoke-on-Trent City Council approved the proposals for a longer-term site to swab patients awaiting surgery and members of staff.

    The rate in the city has increased from 99.9 per 100,000 up to 9 October to 171.6.

    A yellow warning for rain has been issued starting at 03:00 BST and lasting until 14:00.

    About 10-15 mm of rain is expected to fall, with as much as 30 to 50 mm in a few locations.

    It is set to affect parts of the West Midlands conurbation along with Warwickshire and Worcestershire.

    Two schools have closed from today for a fortnight after Covid-19 outbreaks at both sites.

    Avon Valley School, Rugby, (pictured), external and North Leamington School,, external said on their websites their positive cases involved staff and students.

    They said they would reopen on 2 November and all students should self-isolate for the 14 days.

    Children will be taught online and the schools said anyone who struggled to access the work should contact them.
