    A police vehicle has been taken off the road for staff to deal with a "disgusting" act of vandalism.

    Graffiti was daubed on the van while parked outside the Warwickshire force's Leamington Spa station on Newbold Terrace on Sunday night.

    The same vandalism was discovered by officers earlier today on the Queen Victoria statue in The Parade, police said.

    “This is a disgusting act of vandalism," said Sgt Trent McMurray.

    "At a time when my team are working hard to protect people in Leamington during the pandemic, it is really disappointing to be treated in this way; it’s clear some people have no respect for society."

    A child sex abuse charity is one of eight set to benefit from a slice of £2.4m from the government.

    Safeline in Warwick supports victims and survivors of child sexual abuse.

    The two-year funding will go towards services such as support lines, digital counselling and training.

    The other seven charities to receive the funding are National Association for People Abused in Childhood (NAPAC), Mosac, Mankind UK, Rape Crisis England and Wales, The Survivors Trust, Victim Support and Barnardo's.

  7. Commonwealth Games: Road race start park announcedpublished at 14:54 British Summer Time 29 September 2020

    St Nicholas Park in Warwick is to host the start and finish of the 2022 Commonwealth Games road cycling races.

    About 160 cyclists are expected to take part in the men’s and women’s road race events.

    A man has been arrested on suspicion of assaulting two police officers.

    The officers were called to reports of a disturbance in Ascott Close in Bedworth on Monday, police said.

    One of the officers suffered a minor face injury the other was uninjured, the Warwickshire force added.

    The 35-year-old from the town remains in police custody.

    An 18-year-old man has been charged after a man was attacked during a party in Witherley.

    Police were called to a property on Hunt Lane at 23:15 on Friday where they found a 20-year-old man with "serious head injuries".

    He was taken to hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

    The man, from Nuneaton, was arrested on Sunday and later charged with Section 18 causing grievous bodily harm.

    Leicestershire Police said he has been remanded in custody to appear at Leicester Magistrates' Court later.

    A 17-year-old and a 21-year-old, who were also arrested, have been released with no further action.

    Cash was seized from the property in Millbeck on Friday, said Warwickshire Police.

    The 38-year-old was arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of drugs.

    The retailer, which has its UK headquarters in Atherstone, Warwickshire, is also looking to create 4,000 jobs as part of the expansion.

    The coronavirus pandemic has been particularly challenging for discount supermarkets like Aldi and Lidl, the UK head of Aldi has admitted in an interview with the BBC.

    Giles Hurley acknowledged his company had not benefited from the boom in online shopping in the way its rivals had - and added that Aldi is now trialling several new concepts, including a rapid delivery service and a click and collect service.
