    • The last people staying overnight at the Greystone Community Centre in Carlisle found temporary housing. The centre has now closed overnight.
    • The worst-hit streets are now lined with skips and tradesmens' vans
    • But one of the county's MPs has said plans to reopen by the A591 by Easter are "simply not good enough"

  6. Temporary accomdation found for flood-hit people in Carlislepublished at 12:08

    Carlisle's Greystone Community Centre is no longer being used as a reception centre after temporary accomodation was found for all those affected by the floods.

    Carlisle City Council said it reopened as a community centre this morning and will continue to provide food, shelter, supplies and advice. They will provide food until 20:00 each day and be open until 21:00.

    Skips are being delivered to flood-hit areas of the city and a deep clean has been carried out in some areas.

  8. Nine properties affected in Glenridding floodspublished at 11:50

    Eight properties and the basement of the hotel flooded in last night's severe weather in Glenridding, Cumbria Police said.

    A mutli-agency operation was launched involving the force, Cumbria Fire & Rescue Service and the Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team.

    Support will continue during the day including food being delievered.

    Supt Justin Bibby, of Cumbria Police, said: "Whilst river levels are expected to recede today, flood water still poses a danger and we would ask members of the public not to walk or travel through any flood water."

  10. The scene in Appleby: Clean-up under waypublished at 11:23

    I'm in Appleby this morning where I've been speaking to shop owners affected by the flooding. Some of them have had to dump their stock on the street - there is nothing else they can do.

    People are working on the clean-up operation - everyone is working together.

    The river is still flowing very quickly and the bridge is still closed.

  13. Villagers start flood clean-up for second timepublished at 10:58

    People in the Lake District village of Glenridding were clearing flood debris and mopping up water again this morning after a night of heavy rain caused more flooding.

    Craig Brown and his family watched as water poured into their shop for a second time. 

    He said: "The shop has lost every single cabinet and most of the stock was damaged and now that's all gone because it was outside waiting for the insurance company."

    The village was the scene of another famous flood - again after heavy rain - when the Keppel Cove dam, which served a mine further up the valley, burst in 1927. Again the Glenridding hotel was among the buildings most badly damaged, but again, no lives were lost.

  15. Rescue team clocks 50 calls in 100 hours after floodingpublished at 10:36

    Patterdale Mountain Rescue team, which is based close to the village of Glenridding, says it answered 50 separate call-outs in 100 hours because of the floods., external

    Team leader Mike Blakey said: "The calls included evacuating a pregnant woman, dealing with a heart attack patient and evacuating a care home in Appleby. 

    "We have also undertaken multiple flood rescues and assisted the Steamer, Lady Wakefield, when she suffered damage to her hull and began taking on water after breaking moorings on Ullswater."

    The Patterdale team's base was also flooded.

  16. 'Real blow' to have two such significant floodspublished at 10:28

    Cumbria County Council said to have two such significant floods in Glenridding so close together was 'a real blow'.

    A spokesman said: "Emergency services did a fantastic job overnight to support the local community."

  18. Clean-up teams and pump being sent to Glenriddingpublished at 10:18

    Clean-up teams and a pump are being sent to Glenridding to help.

    Overnight Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service sent four fire engines and two swift water rescue teams to help out. Highways teams put out more than 300 sandbags to try to prevent further damage.

    The pump will be used to remove water from Glenridding Hotel.
