Rescue workers have been using dinghies to get people to safety after heavy flooding. In Carlisle, Rob and Denise Wood, whose home flooded 10 years ago, emerged cold, wet and angry from their home.
This plaque on Eden Bridge in the centre of Carlisle was installed after the floods 10 years ago. It would suggest these floods at least equalled the level.

Kendal Town Council's opened up the former tourist information centre in the town hall for people offering help to others caught up in the flooding.
South Lakeland Council leader Peter Thornton said: "We've been overwhelmed by offers of help, not just volunteers but people offering accommodation, even a local building firm offering two men and a van."

There's a yellow Met Office warning in force for rain tonight.
A BBC forecaster, Simon King, said: "Another band of rain is expected later this evening but it'll push through quite quickly and give around 10-20mm of rain to NW Eng and SW Scotland.
"This shouldn't add to or give any additional flooding."

The A591 between Keswick and Grasmere will remain closed for some time after floods washed it away.

Police say they've found a body in the River Kent. They'd been searching for an elderly man who was reported to have fallen into the flooded river near Kendal.

Roger Scoon, who lives in Keswick, told Mike Zeller his house was flooded by about 3ft (1m) of water.
He said: "We are trying to get the mud out first of all and salvage anything we can.
"We are just in the process of taking more gear upstairs if it's not damaged.
"It's the mess, the trauma, it's the upset, it's the fact that it goes on for months and it seems to be never ending."
Hartlepool United FC, external says it has suspended the sale of tickets for its game at Carlisle United on 28 December following severe flooding.
