A broken down lorry is causing delays on the A38. One lane is blocked in Sough Normanton just before the M1 J28 junction.
John from Stanley Village says he's shelled out hundreds of pounds to go to France to keep his daughters safe out there.
He told BBC Radio Derby he's scared to death and he "doesn't want to go".
Hospitals in other parts of the East Midlands have been experiencing busy A&E departments this week and are warning people to only attend in "real emergencies".

We've been talking about Riley Hill's inspiring story this morning.
The four-year-old spent so much time in a hospital bed at Nottingham's QMC hospital he lost his ability to walk.
"It was tough on us all, said his mum Sarah. "It's a long time to spend in hospital for anybody, especially for a four-year-old boy but he took it in his stride."
Police want to speak to this woman after a bank card was stolen and used to buy goods in several shops in Ilkeston., external
The crime happened last month on 18 May.

Riley's mum, Sarah Hill, has been talking to BBC Radio Derby about her son's recovery after he spent 231 days in hospital with a cancerous tumour in his stomach.
"The chances of him coming through what he has come through were really, really slim - less than 5%.
"But it is a sign of Riley's spirit. He just fights every step of the way and he always has done."

Four-year-old Riley Hill here looks happy to be home.
The Matlock toddler has spent 231 days in hospital receiving treatment for a cancerous tumour in his stomach.
Doctors now say they think he will make a full recovery and his mum Sarah Hill has been telling BBC Radio Derby this morning that she's happy to have him back home.

While 29 children's centres are now expected to close in Derbyshire, 21 are staying open and Kirk Hallam's centre will move to Ilkeston.
Councillor Jim Coyle says "it is a very sad day" but the council doesn't have the money to keep the centres open.

More than 1,260 people gave their thoughts on the council's plans to close the children's centres., external
Some of them said shutting them would have an impact on a child's social ability and for families to get support and advice.

Despite strong opposition from some of the centre users, the cabinet at Derbyshire County Council said it had no choice but to close them to save £4.5m a year because of government funding cuts.
The equivalent of a hundred full time jobs will be lost as a result of the closures.
Derby woman Julie Titheridge has been found guilty of the manslaughter of her partner Steve Burton, external. She was cleared of murder but the jury came to a guilty verdict after she admitted stabbing him in the chest during an argument in 2014.

People have been giving their views to the county council on plans to close 29 children's centres in a consultation over the last few months.
The meeting to discuss the closures started at 10:00 so we should hopefully be able to bring you their decision very soon.

There are delays on the M1 southbound between J26 and J25 (A52 Derby) because of an earlier accident involving three cars. All lanes have now reopened but traffic is still slow.
