    Mariana De Souza was one of those who attended the vigil for the Orlando victims.

    She said she wanted to "show solidarity to the people in Orlando and the LGBT community".

    "I think this attack will strike a lot of fear in people's hearts and I'm here to show that love conquers all and you can't scare us out of being ourselves."

    Derby college student Rob Noon organised last night's vigil in Derby Market Place where poems were read amidst the candles, gay pride flags and messages of support.

    "I don't think I know a single LGBT person that hasn't felt a sense of loss," said Rob. "The fact that it is 2016 and these killings are still happening, and considering it is a hate crime, it has hit us so hard."

    There were 40-50 people at Derby Market Place last night for a vigil to remember the victims of the Orlando nightclub shooting.

    People stood around the fountain and the mood was quite sombre as candles were lit and messages of support for the gay, lesbian and transgender community were read out.

    Derby County Midfielder Jeff Hendrick hit the bar and went close to scoring a goal in the Republic of Ireland's 1-1 draw with Sweden.   

    Full of praise for the Rams player, former England captain Alan Shearer, said: "His performance was excellent. He can be very proud of himself."
