  1. Watch: Moment two off-duty officers tried to stop armed robberypublished at 14:41 British Summer Time 29 June 2017

    Alex Rhodes
    BBC Local Live, Lincolnshire

    Take a look at this....

Off-duty Lincolnshire Police officers Sgts David Wilson and Iain McIvor were in Newark on 6 January last year when they heard a commotion coming from a jewellery store.

They ran down the street to find an armed robbery in progress. Instead of backing down they confronted the men, one of whom was brandishing a pump action shotgun:

Sgt McIvor then lunged at the man with the gun, locking him in a bear hug and trying to wrestle the weapon from him.

The offender, struggling, managed to get into the getaway car, which then took off, dragging Sgt McIvor for almost 20m before he was thrown out.

The officers managed to give enough information that it would lead to the arrest and conviction of those responsible.

Both officers have now been nominated for a national bravery award.

    Quote Message

These two officers, who were off-duty, and had zero protective equipment, made the heroic decision to act in the face of incredible danger. This is an incredible example of bravery in the finest traditions of the British police service."

Jon Hassall, Lincolnshire Police Federation chairman

The owners of 15 high rise buildings have until today to reassure Nottingham City Council of their safety.

They wrote to the owners following the fire at Grenfell Tower fire in London, which is presumed to have killed about 80 people.

Questions were raised about the cladding used on Grenfell in the immediate aftermath of the disaster, which led to a nationwide operation to review safety procedures and test buildings with similar cladding.

Prime Minister Theresa May told the Commons on Wednesday that cladding from 120 high-rise buildings in 37 local authority areas in England has failed fire safety tests.

Nottingham City Homes and the city council has already reviewed its own 13 residential tower blocks. A further 60 landlords will be contacted this week.

  11. 'Action needed to clean up polluted Netherfield Lagoons'published at 11:39 British Summer Time 29 June 2017

    Maryam Qaiser
    BBC Local Live

Campaigners have said they are still waiting for answers from the Environment Agency - several weeks after a serious pollution incident at the Netherfield Lagoons.

The pollution killed vegetation and wildlife at the Nottinghamshire beauty spot.

Mark Glover, chairman of the Gedling Conservation Trust - which owns the nature reserve - said there is no life returning to the stream.

He said: "I was down there a couple of days ago, in fact there was a dead toad in the middle of the waterway.

"There is a public footpath down there and this filthy poisonous water goes over the footpath through the reserve."

    Lagoon

Mr Glover said: "We would like some action to be taken, I fully understand the pressures on the Environment Agency following cutbacks.

"But nevertheless they do have a statutory responsibility and powers to investigate this, to get to the bottom of this and to take action to clean this up."

    Ditches in Netherfield

The Environment Agency has taken samples for analysis but the results have not come back yet.

Emma Collyer, from the agency, said: "I can totally understand the frustration around this but it is quite a complex investigation. It is being made more difficult because the stream is underground, it is culverted.

"For our officers to actually assess that, access has been really difficult.

"We have undertaken a number of tests and investigations already, there is a number of wide sources potentially coming into that pollution, we have undertaken DNA analysis to understand better where that is coming from as a source."
