The "surprising find" in Avebury appears to have been erected around the remains of a Neolithic house, which sat at the centre of the colossal stone circle.

It is thought to be one of the site's earliest structures.

Dr Mark Gillings, from the University of Leicester, said in their "wildest dreams" they had not been expecting to find what he has described as a "stone square circle".

  3. Dambusters logbook represents 'Who's Who' of raidpublished at 08:48 British Summer Time 29 June 2017

    BBC Local Live

A logbook which represents a "Who's Who of the Dambusters" has made more than double its estimate at auction.

The volume, which every airman used to record missions, belonged to Leonard Sumpter, a bomb aimer in the attack.

The raid on 17 May 1943 saw experimental bouncing bombs used to break two important dams deep within Nazi Germany.

Flt Sgt Sumpter's book, which fetched £7,000, described the mission as "satisfactory".

Carl Buck, from Nottingham-based International Autograph Auctions, said: "It had an estimate of around £3,000 and it is easy to see why it went for so much, as it had signatures from other airmen like Guy Gibson and David Maltby, making it a Who's Who of the Dambusters."

    Amy Woodfield
    BBC Local Live

Rolls-Royce has just told us it'll be investing £150m in its aerospace division based in the East Midlands, which they say will secure 7,000 local jobs at its sites in Derby, Hucknall and Annesley for at least five years.

Most of that money will go to a new test bed in Derby - this will be used to test engines like the Trent XWB. The engine powers the Airbus A350 XWB, which is the world’s fastest selling civil large engine.

There will also be investment in the large engine Maintenance Repair & Overhaul (MRO) and the Precision Machining Facility (PMF), which had been expected to close.

This investment comes at a time of unprecedented growth in Rolls-Royce. We are doubling the production of new engines at the same time as introducing three new engines to the market."

  6. Mum opened nappy to find son circumcisedpublished at 08:25 British Summer Time 29 June 2017

    Maryam Qaiser
    BBC Local Live

A mother has described the distress of discovering her baby son had been circumcised without her consent.

The woman, from Nottingham, said she opened her son's nappy to find him covered in blood - and was so distraught she had to leave the room.

She has battled for four years for authorities to take action.

Three people have now been arrested, including a 61-year-old man - thought to be a doctor - on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent.

"I opened the nappy and I ended up having to leave the room because I felt hysterical," said the mother, who did not want to be identified.

"It was just awful really, it wasn't very nice, there was all blood there and stuff."

The boy was circumcised in July 2013 when he was three months old, and apparently staying with his paternal grandparents, who are Muslim.

His mother originally contacted social services, then contacted Nottinghamshire Police on 24 November 2014.

There was an investigation but the force deemed it not to be a criminal matter, and the case was referred to the General Medical Council.

The mother later got help from the anti-circumcision group Men Do Complain and leading human rights lawyer Saimo Chahal QC, who wrote to Nottinghamshire Police.

Male circumcision is legal in the UK if both parents consent.
