    A family arrived home from holiday to find their home had been ransacked, external.

    Burglars took a BMW car, jewellery, electronic equipment, tools and bank information from the home in Buxton Road, Whaley Bridge.

    Police believe the break-in took place on 14 August and the burglars may have links to the Stockport area.

    An IT consultant who forged receipts with spelling mistakes in them has been handed a suspended jail sentence.

    Leigh Thomas Southall, 45, of Beckhampton Road, Bestwood, Nottingham, invented claims for hotels, rental properties and taxi fares, evading over £40,000 in tax.

    Investigators at HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) discovered all of his taxi receipts were in the same handwriting, with the word licensed mispelt as "licenced".

    HMRC also said it found Southall claimed he took a £35 taxi from a Kings Cross hotel in London to an office that was in fact just a three minute walk away.

    Southall admitted the fraud and was sentenced to 18 months in prison, suspended for two years, told he must do 200 hours of unpaid work and ordered to pay back the money.

    Nottinghamshire FIre and Rescue believes 10,000 hay bales in Retford were set alight deliberately.

    Firefighter Matt Reavill said the fire covered an area of 100m by 50m and involved an estimated 6,000 tonnes of hay.

    It could continue to burn for two days.

    The westbound route was shut for over seven hours after Staffordshire Police says a white Iveco Daily van and a white Mercedes Sprinter box van collided near the JCB World Parts Centre.

    A 62-year-old man from Northamptonshire who was driving the Mercedes died at the scene of the crash.

    Police say the driver of the Iveco, a 48-year-old man from Dunstall, Bedfordshire, was arrested in connection with providing a positive road side drug swipe and on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

    Boots has accused a pregnancy charity of encouraging the "harassment" of its senior employees in a dispute over the cost of its morning-after pills.

    Lawyers for the Nottingham firm said the British Pregnancy Advisory Service (BPAS) helped supporters to send a "torrent of personal abuse" to members of staff while campaigning for the price of pills to be reduced.

    Boots cut the cost of its emergency contraception in response to the campaign but accused BPAS of the "facilitation and tacit encouragement of personal abuse" by creating a form that included the name of five Boots employees.

    BPAS has responded to the criticism by saying Boots "failed to provide any evidence of abuse sent through the campaign".

    Cycling Weekly left the "token attractive woman" image caption on a recent feature (pictured) about Hinckley Cycle Racing Club.

    Tim Ellershaw, the club's secretary, said: "You can see how these things happen – comments slip through the net when things need to be proofread properly – but it shouldn’t be made in the first place.

    "It’s been a big year for us – we’re a relatively small club with 150 members, and Hinckley’s a small town, so it was a big deal and quite exciting for us.

    "This has taken the shine off it a bit, but we don’t want a reputation for being awkward or associated with controversy."

    A police spokesperson said: “Broadley has been intimidating and bullying the residents of Netherfield and Colwick for many years now.

    "What made this particularly difficult was that witnesses, victims and local businesses were often too afraid and intimidated to come forward.

    A cycling magazine has apologised after a subbing error saw a female rider captioned as a "token attractive woman".

    Cyclist Weekly's edition from 31 August featured a profile of Hinckley Cycle Racing Club to mark the Leicestershire outfit's 70th anniversary.

    Club secretary Tim Ellershaw said they were "annoyed" at the mistake, adding the comment "should never have been made in the first place".

    The magazine said the comment was "an appalling lack of judgment".

    Researchers from the University of Nottingham believe they have worked out what triggers so-called "caught" yawns.

    The team found it occurs in a part of the brain responsible for motor function.

    The primary motor cortex also plays a part in conditions such as Tourette's syndrome.

    So the scientists say understanding contagious yawning could also help understand those disorders too.

    Contagious yawning is a common form of echophenomena - the automatic imitation of someone else's words or actions.

    Ball, who is the Outlaws leading wicket-taker in T20 cricket this summer, missed the Lord's final with a knee injury.

    "Missing out at Lord’s was a big hit and Finals Day is one of the best days of the year."

    "I’m really happy with how things are going personally. Sometimes you can overthink things at Trent Bridge when the ball is going to the boundary. It’s a difficult place to be a bowler.

    "Over the last four or five games, I and the other players have just stuck to the plan and it seems to have worked. Hopefully we can carry that on this Saturday."

    The Outlaws take on Hampshire in tomorrow's second semi-final (14:30), with the winners going on to face Birmingham Bears or Glamorgan.
