    There's an appeal for witnesses after a "chubby" man was reportedly seen exposing himself in a field next to a public path.

    The incident allegedly happened at around 13:50 on Saturday afternoon in a field in Etwall, Derbyshire.

    The field is near the A516 Etwall by-pass, between the A516 flyover bridge and a dismantled railway bridge.

    Police have commended a taxi driver who tackled two armed robbers at a petrol station in Warsop.

    Otis Kirby, 20 and Richard Dowdall, 27, were both wearing masks as they entered Castelle Service Station on Sherwood Street demanding cash on 5 August.

    Nottingham Crown Court heard , externalKirby, from Chesterfield, was armed with a firearm and Dowdall, of no fixed address, had a knife.

    A taxi driver then pulled into the forecourt and wrestled with the pair before they escaped.

    Because of his intervention, clothing was left behind which was used to trace the pair.

    Kirby, 20, was jailed for five years and three months after admitting robbery and possession of an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.

    Dowdall, 27, received the same sentence after also pleading guilty to robbery and possession of a bladed article.

    Nicky Morgan, the MP for Loughborough and a former education secretary, said there should also be an emphasis on skills such as resilience, persistence, grit and leadership as well as academic study.

    This, she said, would give young people the ability to cope with what "life throws at them".

    She added: "Yes, we need our students to be taught knowledge and acquire knowledge in their time at school but they also need to have character development and to learn about character.

    A textile designer whose friend took her own life has created a series of T-shirts to highlight World Mental Health Day.

    Saima Majid, from Littleover, wanted to encourage people to open up about mental health issues.

    She said her friend killed herself after a long bout of depression.

    "She never talked about her issues as she did not want to bring pain to others or inconvenience anyone, and so she always gave the impression that everything was fine.”

    A man has died following a crash on the M69 earlier this morning which left the motorway shut for much of the day.

    The three-vehicle smash, which involved a breakdown recovery truck, a black BMW and a white van, happened between junctions 1 (Hinckley) and 2 (Sapcote) at about 10:00.

    The driver of the recovery truck, a 42-year-old man, died at the scene.

    Two other drivers involved in the crash have been treated in hospital for their injuries.

    The northbound carriageway only recently reopened while the southbound side was shut until mid-afternoon, causing severe delays on the M1 and round Leicester.

    Almost 1,500 people aged between 18-25 in the East Midlands were caught watching live TV or BBC programmes on iPlayer, external without a TV Licence in the past year.

    Figures from TV Licensing reveal there were 748 offenders in Nottinghamshire, 362 in Derbyshire and 360 across Leicestershire.

    Jason Hill, from the licensing authority, said: "Students and young adults need to be aware of their legal responsibilities.

    "Anyone caught watching TV without a TV Licence can face prosecution and a fine of up to a £1,000."

    Nationally, more than 33,000 18-25-year-olds were caught watching TV without a licence in the year from October 2016.

    A new species of ichthyosaur has been identified from a fossil found in a university storeroom.

    An expert from Manchester University spotted that the specimen was a new species and today announced its name as Protoichthyosaurus applebyi

    It has been in Nottingham University's collection for about 50 years and was used by Dr David Large from the engineering department as part of his teaching and outreach work in schools.

    Dean Lomax, a palaeontologist and visiting scientist at The University of Manchester, was searching for another ichthyosaur fossil when he came across this specimen.

    Eventually it was determined that it is new to science. It is currently on display alongside the Dinosaurs of China, external exhibition at Wollaton Hall .
