    Here is the blue plaque in Kirkby Mallory to honour the achievements of Ada Lovelace, the world's first computer programmer.

    Lovelace, who lived at Kirkby Hall, in Leicestershire, is considered to be the first computer programmer following her work with Charles Babbage’s Difference Engine.

    The plaque is on the Coach House in the hamlet as the hall no longer exists and this is the nearest intact building.

    Councillor Maureen Cook, from Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council, said: "I am really pleased to see such a remarkable lady honoured in this way.

    "Her achievements and dedication need to be recorded and the blue plaque is a fitting tribute."

    Coach Corey Neilson has insisted Nottingham Panthers have no plans to "take their foot off the gas" in their final Champions Hockey League group game.

    Panthers, who have become the first UK side in history to qualify for the CHL knockout stages, are in Finland to face Turku in Group F tonight (17:00).

    Neilson, whose side have already won the group, told BBC Radio Nottingham: "We won't be taking this game lightly.

    "We have a huge desire to win our final group game in the CHL."

    Panthers' reward for winning the group is home advantage in Friday's last-16 draw, which means the second leg will be played in Nottingham.

    The higher the points tally of sides in the knockout stages, the better their seeding as the tournament progresses.

    A stretch of the M69 is closed following a crash.

    The road is shut in both directions between junction 1 and the M1 following a three-vehicle collision.

    Leicestershire Police said it was called out to deal with the crash at 10:01 and it still has a presence at the scene.

    Officers are trying to find six teenage girls who they think saw a serious assault.

    A man was taken to hospital after being punched by another man along a footpath near Field House School in Ilkeston.

    Derbyshire batsman Luis Reece has earned a contract for next month's Bangladesh Premier League.

    Reece, 27, will play for Chittagong Vikings in the seven-team T20 tournament.

    He is joined in the Vikings squad by former Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq and ex-Leicestershire overseas star Luke Ronchi.

    Reece told the club's official website:, external "It’s different conditions and I’ll be playing with some international superstars, so it can only help my development for when I return to Derbyshire."

    Ms Hollingworth, who was born in Leicester, was the reporter who broke the news that German troops were poised to invade Poland at the start of World War Two.

    She died earlier this year at the age of 105.

    CCTV footage has been released of a man police want to speak to in connection with an attack in Nottingham.

    A 23-year-old man was taken to QMC with serious facial injuries after an assault in Burton Street on 23 September at about 22:30.

    Nottinghamshire Police , externalsaid three men arrested at the time were released under investigation.

    Here's the heartwarming moment a man who suffered a stroke was reunited with the medics who helped him.

    Rob Goodwin, 49, a physiotherapist from Nottingham, was getting ready for work when he suffered a severe stroke at home.

    Mr Goodwin is now back to full health and is enjoying being able to cycle, run and rock climb again.

    A gig came to a halt at Rock City in Nottingham after violence broke out.

    Fans claimed security at the venue were "heavy-handed" during the Neck Deep show last night, prompting the band to walk off.

    Georgia Stokes, a Nottingham Trent University student, was in the crowd near the stage.

    She said: "What I think was happening was the staff were being really heavy-handed when people were crowd-surfing and the band were asking them to stop because they were trying to protect their fans."

    Nottinghamshire Police said they are investigating reports of an assault.

    Rock City has been contacted for a response.

    A fresh investigation has been ordered into the police handling of the murder of a woman by her stalker ex-boyfriend.

    Alice Ruggles, 24, from Tur Langton, near Market Harborough, was killed by Trimaan "Harry" Dhillon, who broke into her flat in Gateshead in October 2016 and cut her throat.

    Northumbria Police had investigated the handling of the case and found "conduct matters" of concern.

    Now the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) has confirmed it is to carry out its own investigation.

    Mathematician and presenter Hannah Fry (below) has described Lovelace as a woman with "character flaws" but someone who's work was "so extraordinary that it would take another hundred years and Alan Turing to recognise the significance."

    The plaque is set to be revealed at 12:30 at the Coach House in Kirby Mallory, as the hall no longer exists and this is the nearest intact building to it.

    It is certainly a hoppy ending for these 12 frogs who were rescued from a garden in Beeston.

    They were found trapped at the bottom of an 8ft hole, thought to be part of an old sewage system.

    RSPCA Insp Sarah Gardner said: “I had to climb down into the hole and try and catch each frog individually, but there was about two inches of water at the bottom so it was quite muddy and I had to keep looking out for the frogs poking their heads up."

    She said they have since been released back into the wild.

    If you were stuck in traffic around the A52 in Derby today, it is because of major roadworks which started last night.

    Pentagon Island roundabout and Raynesway will be closed between 20:00 and 06:00 for the next five months.

    But lanes will also be narrowed and there will be temporary speed limits during the day.

    The £14.9m scheme is supposed to reduce traffic congestion and improve the area for pedestrians and cyclists.

    An MP has called for a "misleading" Facebook page about former Derby North MP Amanda Solloway to be taken down.

    Pauline Latham, the MP for Mid Derbyshire, said the page continued to "pursue" Ms Solloway (pictured above) over the collapse of Compass, as she is the wife of a former director.

    Ms Latham told Parliament: "The page continues to pursue Amanda Solloway, but never mentions any other directors or their wives."

    In response, Commons Speaker John Bercow said it was beyond his power to have a Facebook page removed but encouraged Ms Latham to raise the concerns with the social media company.
