    A police cordon is in place in Lenton after a teenager was stabbed in the chest.

    It happened on Albert Grove early this morning. The 19-year-old man was taken to hospital where he remains in a serious condition.

    Police have said patrols in the area have been "stepped up" to provide reassurance for the local community.

    The northbound carriageway was closed for about two hours. The southbound side closed for more than four hours, reopened for rush hour, then closed again overnight for resurfacing.

    Fortunately, the driver was uninjured.

    A motorist has been caught by police driving at 87mph in a 30mph zone in Fleckney.

    The driver was one of 15 caught breaking the speed limit on Saddington Road during a three-hour operation this morning.

    Another two drivers were found to have no insurance and had their vehicles seized.

    Up to eight fire crews were involved in tackling a blaze at a factory in Shepshed last night.

    Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service received several calls about the fire on Ashby Road Central just before 21:00.

    A crew from Loughborough was due to revisit the scene this morning to reinspect the site.

    The cause of the fire is currently "under investigation".

    Today's Prime Minister's Questions began with Bolsover MP Dennis Skinner demanding to know why homes in the north of England were being demolished to make way for HS2 but were being protected by tunnels in the south.

    Police have named a motorcyclist who died in a crash in Osbaston at the weekend as 47-year-old David Rowley.

    The motorbike he was riding collided with a car on the A447 Hinckley Road on Sunday afternoon.

    Mr Rowley, from Normanton le Heath, was pronounced dead at the scene.

    The 34-year-old right-handed opener moves to Trent Bridge after being released by Sussex last week.

    A 19-year-old man has been taken to hospital after being stabbed in the chest outside a house in Lenton.

    Police said it happened in Albert Grove shortly before 06:00.

    The teenager is in a serious condition and a cordon has been put up while investigations are carried out.

    Boat enthusiasts gathered at Cromford Wharf this morning to watch a historic boat being lifted out of the canal.

    The Birdswood was originally built in the 1930s as a coal transporter -- but four years ago was purchased and turned into a visitor attraction.

    It's being inspected and cleaned before returning to the water in December ready for Christmas boat trips.

    Police have launched a murder investigation following the death of a teenager.

    Emergency services were called to Ross Walk in the Belgrave area of Leicester last night.

    Two 17-year-old boys were found injured - one has since died. Police are treating the death as suspicious.

    The second teenager's injuries are not believed to be life threatening and he is undergoing treatment.

    A 16-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder. He is in police custody being questioned by detectives.

    Police have closed off roads in the area while they carry out a forensic examination.

    Leicestershire County Cricket's chief executive said the last six months have been the "hardest of his life".

    The Foxes finished bottom of the County Championship after failing to win a single game this season.

    A teenager has been charged after another teenager was stabbed during a fight in Derby city centre.

    Police said a 19-year-old man suffered serious injuries when he was attacked in the underpass between Bass' Recreation Ground and the River Gardens on Saturday afternoon.

    A second 19-year-old man has been charged with wounding with intent and possessing an offensive weapon and is due to appear before magistrates later.

    Police added the two men are thought to know each other.

    Defeat at Reading last night cost Nottingham Forest their chance to jump into the play-off places.

    Two John Swift goals and an own goal from Reds keeper Jordan Smith meant all three points went to the home side. Ben Osborn scored a late consolation for Forest.

    Forest now sit 13th in the Championship table - two points off sixth.

    Christmas is officially on its way - the 60ft tree is going up in Nottingham's Old Market Square this morning.

    It will be decked out with 4,000 lights ready for the switch-on on 17 November.

    Police had to escort a loose horse from a major road in Notts yesterday.

    The animal was encountered by officers driving along the A60 near Mansfield Woodhouse shortly before 17:00.

    PC Adam Pace said: "After a short pursuit and with help from the public, the horse was detained and taken back to her field unharmed."

    Small police cars are sometimes referred to as panda cars - just to clear up any confusion over the headline.

    Police have released a photo, external of a woman they believe may have witnessed an assault at a nightclub in Derby.

    The alleged attack happened in the ladies' toilet at MooMoo Clubrooms in St James' Street at about 03:30 on Friday 15 September.
