As the weather gets increasingly colder, the pressure on A&E departments across the region will inevitably increase.

At Leicester Royal Infirmary, a new assessment unit has opened in a bid to reduce the burden on the city's emergency department.

The GP and Ambulatory Care Unit will treat patients referred by their own doctors as an emergency.

Some patients from the hospital's own emergency department and others who've been discharged and need follow-up appointments will be referred to the unit.

Hospital bosses hope it will reduce unnecessary admissions this winter.

The demolition of Broadmarsh car park in Nottingham has reached the halfway mark.

It is part of the wider, multi-million pound redevelopment of the area and the new car park is expected to be ready in late 2019.

But the demolition itself has become something of an attraction for passers-by.

Andrew, a security guard at Nottingham Crown Court, says the work is attracting more than 100 people at a time.

"It is probably because the building has been around for a very, very long time so people are probably amazed at the transformation."

Work started in July and is expected to take six months.

From the 20,000 tonnes of material from the site, more than 99% will be recycled, 75% of all the waste rubble will go towards creating new roads and buildings locally.

  6. 'Unofficial' tram plans publishedpublished at 08:30 Greenwich Mean Time 20 November 2017

    Maryam Qaiser
    BBC Local Live

Proposals for up to nine new tram lines serving Nottinghamshire and beyond have been published online.

But Nottingham City Council and Gedling Borough Council say it is nothing to do with them.

They have made it clear that the plans are not official even though the website, external does include costings paid for by a suggested tax on retail parking spaces.

If the proposals are given the go-ahead, the routes would include Arnold, Cotgrave, Keyworth, Giltbrook and even Derby.

Those behind the website haven't responded to our inquiries.

Children who were sexually abused by Jehovah's Witnesses were allegedly told by the church not to report the crimes.

Male and female victims from across the UK - including in Leicester - have told the BBC they were routinely abused and that the religious organisation's own rules protected perpetrators.

One child abuse lawyer believes there could be thousands more victims.

The church said it did not "shield" abusers.
