    It's Budget day. 'But isn't it usually in the Spring?' I hear you ask.

    And you're right, it is, but last year Chancellor Philip Hammond announced he would deliver the Budget in the Autumn, giving MPs longer to scrutinise it before the new tax year starts in April.

    The last chancellor to give an Autumn Budget was Rushcliffe MP Ken Clarke in 1996.

    The Budget is the only time alcohol is allowed in the chamber of the House of Commons.

    Mr Clarke was also the last chancellor to bring in a Budget tipple in the 1990s - he liked a glass of Glenfarclas Scotch whisky to accompany his speeches.

    Here are some more pictures from our reporter at the scene of today's cash machine attack in Leicestershire.

    Police were called to Tesco Express, in Hinckley, in the early hours and it appears a vehicle was used in the raid.

    A spokeswoman from Leicestershire Police said: "We are aware of the incident and are investigating."

    This is the second attack in the county in just 24 hours - on Monday night one was attacked in Cosby.

    Since April last year, 25 cash points have now been targeted across the county.

    A teenager has been charged with pitch encroachment following a match between Derby County and Queens Park Rangers.

    An 18-year-old from Derby is accused of going onto the pitch during the match at Pride Park Stadium on Tuesday.

    He will appear before Southern Derbyshire Magistrates’ Court in January.

    The Nottingham lace archive is the inspiration behind a new clothing collection at a high street fashion chain.

    Designers from Oasis visited the archive at Nottingham Trent University which holds 75,000 lace samples.

    The team were directly influenced by patterns from the 1920s which formed the basis of their Christmas collection.

    About 100 guests attended a ceremony to celebrate the successful season of Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club.

    The club scooped the 50-over Royal London one-day cup at Lord’s in July and the NatWest T20 Blast in September in Edgbaston.

    The team also won promotion back to Specsavers County Division One at the first attempt.

    The civic reception, which was held yesterday at Trent Bridge, was organised by the club in partnership with the county council, city council and Rushcliffe Borough Council.

    The East Midlands Chamber of Commerce hopes for a freeze in business rates in today's Budget to make the country "business ready".

    Chancellor Phillip Hammond is preparing to present his first Budget since the general election.

    Mr Hammond is under pressure to announce measures to tackle the housing shortage, put more money into the NHS and ease austerity.

    Police are appealing for witnesses to a robbery where a woman was allegedly punched in the face and had cash stolen from her.

    A 42-year-old woman reported being approached by a man and a woman between 22:15 and 22:45 on Tuesday, 7 November in Normanton Road, Derby.

    She suffered head and facial injuries in the incident.

    Derbyshire Police said the man is thought to have been wearing a black jacket while the woman sported ripped denim coloured bottoms and they may have spoken with European accents.

    Nottinghamshire fast bowler Jake Ball has been called up for his first Ashes Test at the Gabba tonight.

    A plan to move some of Long Eaton and Ilkeston's police officers to Derby has been shelved.

    The idea was raised in a review the Derbyshire force did earlier this year. It came after the time it takes officers to respond to reports of a crime increased.

    The comedian Russell Brand met staff and service users at the Burton Addiction Centre where he is a patron.

    Brand was in town to sign copies of his book and is donating a percentage of the sales to the running of the centre.

    The book is about the comedian's recovery from addiction.

    New bars and restaurants could open at Sneinton Market as part of refurbishment plans - but traders have raised some concerns.

    Developers Carlton Street Trading wants to convert three buildings on the site - two units into student flats and a third for food and drink.

    Brian Grundy, who represents Sneinton Market traders, said: "There are so many student flats and I am concerned that if it is just student flats when the students are not here, the place dies.

    "I would actually prefer to have people living here all year rather than this influx of students."

    But the developers say the new plans will "liven up the area" and have submitted an application to Nottingham City Council.

    Leicestershire Police are investigating another attack on a cash machine in the county.

    They were called out in the early hours of this morning to Tesco Express in Hinckley and it appears a vehicle was used in the attack.

    It's the latest in a string of cash machine attacks in Leicestershire and just over 24 hours since a dispenser in Cosby was targeted.

    The old methods are the best, according to Severn Trent, whose workers are apparently using dowsing to find underground water pipes.

    An Oxford University scientist contacted the firm, which covers the Midlands, after a worker produced two "bent tent pegs" to find a mains pipe at her parents' home.

    A dowser will typically hold rods while walking over land and being alert for any movement to find water in a centuries-old process.

    The water firm, which covers the Midlands, told Sally Le Page on Twitter that some of the old methods "are just as effective".

    Plans for a £20m new leisure centre in Coalville have been approved.

    Work can now start on finding a company to build and run the centre which will be on the edge of Stephenson Way.

    Alison Smith, deputy leader of Northwest Leicestershire District Council, acknowledged concerns of some councillors and members of the public but said she was confident it is financially sustainable.

    She said: "It is a huge step and we have to go through scrutiny...it is adding up at the moment, I am sure it will continue to add up but we have been very diligent in what we have done and it will work, I am convinced it will work."
