An asylum seeker accused of plotting a terror attack with the help of a woman he met on a dating site had a wife abroad to whom he sent so-called Islamic State propaganda, a court heard.
Munir Mohamed, 36, from Derby, and Rowaida El-Hassan, 33, from north-west London, deny preparing terrorist acts.
The Old Bailey heard that in 2015 Mr Mohamed married a woman in the Sudan whom he has still never met.
The jury were shown a series of messages between the married couple including material produced by IS, stories generated by the group’s news agencies and, on one occasion, the hashtag #support_islamic_state.
Speaking through an interpreter, Mr Mohamed dismissed the exchanges as "news and jokes".
The pair deny preparing terrorist acts by engaging in research, planning, and obtaining materials to produce an improvised explosive device or poison, with a view to committing attacks in the UK.
The trial continues.

The police watchdog has found Leicestershire Police used "proportionate force" when arresting a man armed with a knife outside a community centre in Leicester.
The man arrested in the Beaumont Leys area on 11 September this year needed stitches to his face after two police officers used batons to restrain him.
The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) said he refused to put the knife down despite repeated requests, and approached one of the officers with it.
He was eventually arrested and later given a four-month jail sentence, suspended for a year.
Quote MessageWe had a duty to investigate due to the injury the man sustained, and our investigator concluded that officers faced a very real threat to their safety and acted with substantial restraint."

A 35-year-old man from Leicester, who shone a laser at a police helicopter, has been jailed.
It happened in the Thurnby Lodge area of the city in October.
Neil Wright, from Croyland Green, shone the laser into the sky targeting the helicopter a number of times over a 15-minute period.
The light dazzled the pilot, forcing him to turn the helicopter around and abandon enquiries into a firearms incident.
Wright was sentenced to 20 weeks in prison. The judge said the seriousness of the offence is "blindingly obvious" as he could have cause the death of everyone in the helicopter.
