    A number of East Midlands MPs have added their signatures to a cross-party letter calling on Justice Secretary David Lidington to urgently investigate the decision to release sex attacker John Worboys on parole.

    Former black-cab driver Worboys is believed to have carried out more than 100 rapes and sexual assaults on women and his release has been condemned by victims' groups and charities.

    Lilian Greenwood (Nottingham South), Liz Kendall (Leicester West), Toby Perkins (Chesterfield), Ruth George (High Peak) and Vernon Coaker (Gedling) are among 58 MPs that signed the letter.

    It reads: "We are concerned at the management of his application for release and the MoJ's role in this regard, and the questions this may raise for victims and survivors of serious sexual assault."

    The chairman of the parole board has said the decision had been "carefully considered" and the panel was "confident" the 60-year-old would not reoffend.

    Five East Midlands swimmers have been added to Team England's squad for the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Australia.

    Abbie Wood (Buxton/Loughborough), Elliot Clogg (Mansfield/Loughborough), Lewis White (Swadlincote/Derby), Ollie Hynd (Kirkby-in-Ashfield/Nova) and Rosie Ruddin (Nottingham/Sheffield) have all made the line-up.

    Adam Peaty (Uttoxeter/Loughborough - pictured), Molly Renshaw (Mansfield/Loughborough) and Sarah Vasey (Derby/Loughborough) had their places in the squad confirmed in October.

    Police have recovered a vehicle, external they believe was used to cause major damage to an empty house in Tuxford.

    Officers rushed to the Ollerton Road property yesterday morning following reports it could be about to collapse. The vehicle was found abandoned nearby.

    The case was described as "very unusual" by Notts Police, who said they believed it was an "isolated attack".

    Chesterfield have signed Bournemouth goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale on loan until the end of the season.

    Ramsdale joined Bournemouth from Sheffield United in January 2016, but has yet to make his debut for the Premier League side.

    The 19-year-old helped England win the European Under-19 Championship in July, starting every game.

    A new fleet of wheelchairs is being rolled out to help disabled children in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.

    The chairs feature improved moulding aimed at providing more comfort and are designed to be easier to take outside.

    So far, 29 children have received the new chairs and health bosses say they hope hundreds more will benefit over the coming months and years.

    A Derby man who was fined £50 for feeding the ducks behind Derby's Council House has had the charge cancelled.

    Richard Gibson received the punishment when city council enforcement officers said he was littering by throwing bread he found on the floor to birds in the River Derwent.

    However, he told BBC Radio Derby he received a letter this morning saying the fine had been cancelled "as a goodwill gesture based on further investigation".

    Nottingham Castle could completely close for two years as part of a major redevelopment.

    Work on the £30m project is due to begin in the spring, with promises of new galleries, a visitor centre and full refurbishments by 2020.

    Nottingham Castle Trust said they hope areas around the castle, including the Robin Hood statue, will not be affected.
