    An 18-year-old man has been arrested, external on suspicion of using a stolen van to steal a quad bike and tools.

    Derbyshire Police said the bike had been taken from a shed at a house in Melbourne last night and the van was reported stolen on Wednesday.

    The van was chased down and stopped in Alvaston at about 01:15 after it was spotted being driven from Derby to Swarkestone.

    The teenager was detained on suspicion of dangerous driving, failing to stop for police, driving without a licence or insurance, theft of a quad bike, burglary, and taking a vehicle without consent.

    Officers are concerned for the safety of Carter Price who was reported missing from Newark yesterday.

    Nottinghamshire Police said, external the 13-year-old had been seen in the town on a few occasions up until 21:00 last night.

    He is described as white, about 5ft 8ins tall and of medium build. He was last seen wearing a dark coloured tracksuit top, bottoms and black Nike trainers.

    Ambulance technician Kuldip Singh Bhamrah, who has served Leicestershire and Rutland for 36 years, has been named in the New Year's Honours List to receive the Queen's Ambulance Service Medal for distinguished service.

    He began his ambulance career as a member of the non-urgent Patient Transport Service in 1981 and a year later he trained as a technician.

    He is one of only two ambulance employees in the UK to receive the award this year.

    The force were alerted to the two-car crash just after 07:15.

    One man has been taken to the Queen's Medical Centre with serious injuries while another man suffered minor injuries.

    Police have released a CCTV image of a man they want to speak to after a robbery in Bilborough.

    Nottinghamshire Police said, external a man entered a convenience store in Chingford Road at about 19:45 on 15 December with what is believed to have been a machete and asked for money.

    He then made off with an amount of cash and is thought to have fleed in the direction of a playing field close to Westbury School.

    Police arrested nearly twice as many people for drink or drug driving in Leicestershire this Christmas, external than during the same period the previous year.

    Leicestershire Police said there were 99 arrests for the offences in December - 35 after crashes - and one driver was found to be more than four times the legal alcohol limit.

    This compared to 50 arrests in December 2016 - a rise the force described as "alarming".

    The force also said they were concerned a third of drivers arrested in the most recent crackdown were 25 or younger.

    Only 3% of Asian people in Leicester are homeless despite them making up more than 50% of the city's population, according to a report by De Montfort University.

    Help the Homeless, an independent charity, says this is down to "strong family ties and values" and the way the social family structure is embedded within the Asian culture.

    Volunteer Arif Vorajee said: "I think it's down to upbringing. The stereotype you hear about, 'oh you're 18 now, go and find your own place'... a lot in the white community, the English community, you don't get that in the Asians.

    "The eldest son is expected to stay with the mum and dad to look after them even once he's married - that's why I think the family values and the closeness are always there."

    A Derby man who had a rape conviction overturned after spending two years in prison has said he feels "let down" by the justice system.

    Danny Kay told BBC Breakfast this morning: "It was devastating for a system that you trust to let you down like that.

    "I had complete faith in it, I trusted that the truth would come out in the trial and it didn't."

    The 26-year-old was convicted of rape after a trial at Derby Crown Court in 2013 and sentenced to four-and-a-half years.

    Deleted Facebook messages were found by his sister-in-law leading to the Court of Appeal quashing the conviction.

    He said he now fears people will always have "doubts" about his innocence.

    Derbyshire Police said its investigation will be independently reviewed so "lessons are learned".

    Detectives have been given more time to question a 26-year-old Leicester man and four others on suspicion of belonging to banned far-right terror group National Action.

    The five men were arrested at locations around the country as part of a counter-terrorism operation on Wednesday morning.

    A group that wants to transform a stretch of Derbyshire canal into an attraction for anglers and visitors has raised £60,000 towards the £100,000 it needs to kick-start the project.

    The Derby and Sandiacre Trust is aiming to raise £350,000 to carry out work on a stretch through Draycott, dubbed the Golden Mile, by finding the initial chunk itself and bringing in the rest through grants.

    It's the first stage of a long-term plan to restore 13 miles of waterways between Derby and Sandiacre.

    Specialist clinics have been set up in Nottingham to help deal with the use of the "zombie" drug Black Mamba.

    The Nottingham Recovery Network says it is responding to a need in the city to support those addicted to the synthetic drug.

    Effects of mamba drugs

    Figures show that about 400 Mamba-related reports were made to Nottinghamshire Police last year.

    The force said they received a report of it being used on average more than once a day between January and November last year.

    A mobile police station was also set up in Derby to try and crack down on the use of Mamba and the Spice drug.
