East Midlands Ambulance Service said the call was one of many unnecessary requests made to the emergency number.

Other examples of spurious calls included a person worried about a dead fox, someone with a broken toenail, another who wanted a taxi home and a patient waiting to be seen at a GP surgery who didn’t want to wait 30 minutes for their appointment.

With more than 2,500 999 calls handled every day, the ambulance service said people should only phone the number in an emergency.

    BBC News

Police in Derbyshire have issued an appeal after a woman was strangled, raped and left for dead in a residential street in Ilkeston.

The woman was walking along Manners Street and Queens Avenue on 26 November last year when she was approached by a man.

She was grabbed on the corner by Middleton Avenue, police say.

Derbyshire Police has filmed a reconstruction of the incident in a bid to get more information.

The three-week programme, being run by the University of Leicester and De Montfort University, will also explore the social impact of the sport.

Dr Neil Carter, from De Montfort University, said: "Even now it seems difficult to register that Leicester actually won the Premier League, especially in light of the changes that have taken place in football over recent decades.

"So Leicester City are worthy of their place in football history and worthy of an area of study on this course".

The course is free to sign up for, but people can pay to have unlimited access to all of the study material.

Boris Johnson is well-known for ruffling a few feathers, and after reports that he is set to ask Prime Minister Theresa May for an additional £100m a week for the NHS he is at the centre of another political storm.

The question of why the Foreign Secretary is asking for more money for the health service is a moot point, but Broxtowe MP Anna Soubry has criticised her Conservative colleague, and called for his dismissal.

Business groups and local councils reacted angrily when, in July, the government announced that new "bi-mode" trains would run on the line instead.

The Midland Mainline runs from London to Sheffield, via Leicester, Nottingham and Derby.

  16. 'Two suicide attempts every week' at jailpublished at 08:21 Greenwich Mean Time 23 January 2018

    Caroline Lowbridge
    BBC News

A prison officer at a jail described as "fundamentally unsafe" claims his colleagues stop two suicides every week.

    HMP Nottingham

Eight inmates are thought to have killed themselves at HMP Nottingham in the past two years.

Many more inmates attempt suicide, the officer said, but the public does not hear about the lives saved.

Justice Secretary David Gauke said he will look at "the issues faced by the prison" and publish an action plan.

The prison officer contacted the BBC after the chief inspector of prisons issued Mr Gauke with an "urgent notification letter", external- sent on 17 January - demanding action within 28 days.

He said news reports of this were a "massive kick in the face" for his colleagues and he wanted to raise awareness of the work they do to prevent the prison from "turning into a massive riot".
