    A man has been arrested following reports of arson on a street in Leicester.

    The emergency services were called to an address on Birds Nest Avenue shortly after 16:30 following reports that the front door of a property was on fire.

    A woman and three children who were inside at the time were able to get out unharmed.

    A 37-year-old man was questioned in connection with the fire. He's been released pending further enquiries.

    A man has been found dead in a country lane near Oadby, external.

    Leicestershire Police said the body was discovered in Gaulby Lane, Stoughton, at about 10:00 and the death is being treated as unexplained.

    The force has appealed for anyone with information to get in touch.

    Wetherspoon, Jamie's Italian and Butlins have stopped selling meat from a Derby-based supplier.

    It's after the Food Standards Agency inspected Russell Hume and found instances of "serious non-compliance with food hygiene regulations".

    Russell Hume has said the product recall was a "precautionary measure".

    Broadcaster Maggie Philbin received her honorary degree from the University of Leicester earlier.

    The former Tomorrow's World presenter began her speech by inviting her young audience to give their parents an extra round of applause for the support they had given during their studies.

    She then told them: "You have absolutely no idea what you are capable of and what you really can go on to achieve."

    Russell Brand's forthcoming show at Derby Arena has been put back three weeks.

    The comedian was due to appear at the venue on 19 April but said he needed to postpone it to 9 May due to filming commitments.

    A 17-year-old boy has been charged with stabbing a 34-year-old man in Mansfield, external.

    Police said the victim was taken to hospital after being attacked in Tuckers Lane at 19:45 on Saturday.

    The teenager was detained shortly after and has been charged with grievous bodily harm.

    He was also charged with a robbery and attempted robbery in Mansfield that allegedly took place earlier this month.

    The British Army served up a birthday surprise for a Leicestershire woman as she turned 100 today.

    Soldiers - and horses - from the Defence Animal Centre stopped off at Joan Hart's house in Melton Mowbray to wish her many happy returns.

    The horses and their riders pass by Joan’s home when they exercise and she always tries to catch sight of them.

    Mrs Hart described the surprise as "wonderful" and "marvellous".

    New government figures, external have shown there were 313 rough sleepers in the East Midlands in autumn last year.

    Here's how the regional total has risen and fallen each autumn since 2010:

    • 2010: 121 rough sleepers
    • 2011: 188 (55% increase)
    • 2012: 137 (27% drop)
    • 2013: 206 (50% increase)
    • 2014: 193 (6% drop)
    • 2015: 208 (8% increase)
    • 2016: 255 (23% increase)
    • 2017: 313 (23% increase)

    A man needed hospital treatment following a hit-and-run crash, external outside a shop in Fairfield.

    Derbyshire Police said the 29-year-old pedestrian suffered injuries to his face, arms and ribs when he was hit by a car outside the One Stop shop in Bench Road on Sunday night.
