    Jack Adcock's family have said they are "elated" that the doctor who was convicted of his manslaughter can now be struck off the medical register.

    In addition to a two-year suspended prison sentence, Dr Hadiza Bawa-Garba had been given a 12-month medical suspension.

    But that decision by the Medical Practitioners Tribunal, made last June, was challenged by the General Medical Council.

    Jack's mother, Nicola, said: "We are absolutely elated with the decision.

    "She should have been struck off in the first place - it shouldn't have come to this.

    "I know we'll never get Jack back but we have got justice for our little boy."

    The General Medical Council has won a High Court action to have Dr Hadiza Bawa-Garba struck off the medical register over the death of Jack Adcock.

    The six-year-old, from Glen Parva, Leicestershire, who had Down's Syndrome and a known heart condition, died at Leicester Royal Infirmary in 2011 after he developed sepsis.

    After a 2015 trial at Nottingham Crown Court, Dr Bawa-Garba was sentenced to two years in prison suspended for two years.

    During the trial, the prosecution said Jack died after a series of failings by medical staff, including Dr Bawa-Garba's "failure to discharge her duty" as the responsible doctor.

    Three men needed hospital treatment after being attacked at a pub in Dronfield, external.

    Police said two men were assaulted inside The Talbot in Stubley Lane following an altercation on 12 January and a third man was attacked outside.

    No further information has been released about the extent of their injuries but police have appealed for witnesses.

    Both Derby and Nottingham have seen a rise in the number of people sleeping rough.

    The figures, from the Office for National Statistics, external, showed the number of rough sleepers was 43 in Nottingham in autumn 2017 - up from 35 for the same period the previous year - while in Derby the figure had increased from 21 to 37.

    However, Leicester saw a slight drop from 36 to 31.

    The figure for the whole East Midlands had increased by 23% from 255 in autumn 2016 to 313 the following autumn. This compares to a 15% rise for the whole of England.

    Notts Outlaws have re-signed New Zealand spinner Ish Sodhi for this year's T20 Blast competition.

    Sodhi, 25, who took 15 wickets in the Outlaws' 2017 win, is currently ranked as the number one T20 bowler in the world.

    He is expected to be available for the duration of the competition, which gets under way at Trent Bridge on 4 July.

    A disabled woman, from Hucknall, says she has lost her independence after thieves stole a wheelchair attachment she relies on to get into Nottingham.

    Alex Tuggey, who has MS, uses the motorised wheel to move from her home to a local tram stop to travel to the city centre.

    The attachment was taken yesterday from a designated storage space at the stop that was unsecured after being vandalised.

    Speaking to BBC Radio Nottingham this morning, the 44-year-old mother of three described the theft as "hideous".

    She said: "It's a wheel with two handlebars and a motor at the base. I imagine they'll just be picking it to bits because they can't use it.

    "It's got a purpose-built bracket and key operation - I've got the key and the charger - so it's pretty much useless to anyone else.

    "It's essential, it's my independence. Now I'm going to be totally reliant on home shopping and people coming to me. I'm going nowhere for a bit."

    NHS managers are due to decide later this morning whether a unit that treats drug and alcohol dependency in Nottingham should close.

    They claim the 15-bed Woodlands Unit, which is based at Highbury Hospital in Bulwell, is running at a loss.

    However, campaigners argue its closure will lead to more pressure on A&E departments.

    But the Trust which runs it has said it is in talks to find alternative providers.

    Former Tomorrow's World and Swap Shop presenter Maggie Philbin is set to be awarded an honorary degree later.

    The degree, from the University of Leicester, will see her become a Doctor of Science.

    "It’s a real honour to accept this honorary degree in my home city," she said.

    "When working for Tomorrow’s World I felt especially proud when we covered stories featuring the work of scientists and engineers from the university.

    "So this has a very real resonance for me."

    Leicester Tigers chairman Peter Tom and author Nina Stibbe will also be awarded honorary degrees later.

    Fire crews have been dealing with a blaze at a block of flats in Mansfield.

    Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue said it was called out to the properties on Foston Close at about 04:00 this morning.

    No-one was seriously injured in the blaze, but some people were treated by paramedics for smoke inhalation.

    The High Court is to rule on whether a doctor who was found guilty of gross negligence manslaughter over the death of a six-year-old boy should be struck off.

    The General Medical Council (GMC) has appealed against a determination of the Medical Practitioners Tribunal, last June, to impose a sanction of 12 months' suspension on Hadiza Bawa-Garba.

    The GMC, argues that the suspension "is not sufficient to protect the public" in the circumstances of the case.

    A music venue that was badly damaged in a blaze in 2014 is to be knocked down and rebuilt.

    Derby Assembly Rooms, where the fire broke out in its roof car park, will be demolished in 2020 and reopened as a music and performance venue in 2022.

    Its replacement will be a 3,000-capacity venue, Derby City Council decided, after a public consultation involving more than 1,000 people.

    As part of the £44m project, a larger multi-storey car park will be built.

    An increase in council tax for Derby residents - up 6% this year - will help to pay for the project, the council said.

    • There are delays of about 30 minutes on the A38 southbound towards Derby because of a broken-down vehicle after the A610 junction near Ripley.
    • Delays on the M1 southbound because of the roadworks at junction 25 (Nottingham/Derby).
    • Slash Lane in Sileby remains closed due to flooding between Mountsorrel Lane and Sileby Road.
