    People could be put off coming to this year's Matlock Bath illuminations because of the lack of trains, the event's compere claims.

    The illuminations, which run from 8 September to 27 October, will be affected by a £200m improvement programme at Derby railway station., external

    A temporary change to the timetable while the work is carried out means there will not be a direct service to Matlock for the first month of the illuminations.

    A rail replacement bus service will run instead.

    Geoff Stevens said: "We need people to come to the event, it has to be self supporting, although it is run by Derbyshire Dales District Council, it has to pay for itself.

    "Obviously people coming is vital to the future of the event."

    A university building is set to be honored with a blue plaque to mark its contribution during the First World War.

    Brackenhurst Hall, part of Nottingham Trent University's animal and life sciences campus at Southwell, was a hospital during the conflict.

    It mainly helped servicemen recovering from injury.

    Professor Robert Mortimer said: "An important part of both the university’s 175th anniversary year and the redevelopment of our Brackenhurst Campus is to celebrate our heritage.

    "This plaque marking use of the main hall during the First World War is a great example of that heritage."

    It will be unveiled next Thursday.

    Derby County defender Jason Shackell has agreed a loan move to Millwall for the rest of the season.

    The 34-year-old has six months left on his deal with the Rams and could join Millwall permanently when it expires.

    The former Burnley captain is in his second spell at Derby, but has been out-of-favour since Gary Rowett took over as manager in March 2017.

    He has made just two appearances this season, both in the EFL Cup.

    Police want to speak to this trio, external after a man had his wallet stolen while cycling to work.

    Three men approached the cyclist on a footpath near Canal Street in Cotmanhay and asked for cigarettes and money before grabbing the wallet from his back pocket and running off.

    Derbyshire Police said the theft happened at about 07:50 on 8 January.

    East Midlands Airport has devised a scheme to stop wedding proposals being scuppered at security.

    Airport bosses said people can now contact them in advance and obtain a "secret code" so that their engagement ring is not picked up by a metal detector.

    When the code is mentioned to security staff, the person will be taken to a separate aisle away to be scanned.

    The Post Office is considering introducing a new van-based service across parts of Derbyshire and Leicestershire.

    The proposals would see a specifically designed vehicle visit certain communities so they do not have to rely on traditional Post Office shops.

    If the plans get the go ahead, the vehicle would visit Walton upon Trent, Mapleton, Hulland Ward and Turnditch in Derbyshire and Blackfordby, Sheepy Magna and Bitteswell in Leicestershire.

    Lesley McNally, said: "Since the temporary closure of these rural branches we have continued to work to identify a solution to restore services to these local communities.

    "The establishment of mobile services presents the best possible solution to restore Post Office services to these communities."

    A six-week consultation into the proposals ends on 8 March.

    Four people have been arrested, external in connection with a hit-and-run crash in Normanton after shocking footage of the collision was released by police.

    A 19-year-old man suffered life-changing injuries when he was hit by a car and thrown into the air while crossing Normanton Road on 5 November.

    Derbyshire Police said two men aged 20, a 20-year-old woman and a 29-year-old man were arrested in Derby and Burton this morning.

    Police are still appealing for information on the crash, which they believe involved an Audi A3.

    Photos have been released of two women police want to speak to after a pensioner had her purse stolen while shopping in Derby.

    The black Radley purse was taken from the 73-year-old victim's handbag as she browsed Boots in the Intu centre on 26 December.

    Inside were money, bank cards and personal details. Police have asked anyone who can help to call 101.

    Feeder have been announced as the Saturday headliner for a new festival being held at Spondon's Locko Park this summer.

    Cast, Hoosiers and Goldie Lookin Chain are also on the bill for Blok Out, external, due to take place on 13-15 July.

    The event is being billed as a "music and food festival".
