    Police are appealing for dashcam footage after a breakdown recovery worker died while repairing a vehicle in a lane of a dual carriageway.

    It happened on the A617 at Rainworth on Friday evening.

    Leicester Riders have applied to join the Basketball Champions League for the 2018/19 season.

    If successful, the treble treble winners will be the first British team in the European competition for more than a decade

    Head Coach Rob Paternostro said he is "excited" by the opportunity.

    "It’s always been an ambition of ours to take the club into a European competition," he said.

    The Champions League will meet on 27 June to review all applications and select 56 teams, from across 50 European countries, to take part.

    An exhibition of black dolls has opened with the intention of "shocking" but also "informing" some visitors.

    It explores how black people are represented by dolls and characters in children's books, and the impact this can have.

    It is on display at the National Trust Museum of Childhood in Derbyshire until 4 November.

    The exhibition is being run in conjunction with the Nottingham-based National Caribbean Heritage Museum.

    The leader of Derby City Council says he is confident the city's engineering industry remains strong after a series of setbacks last week.

    On Friday, it was announced Bombardier lost out on a £1.5bn new contract for trains for the London Underground.

    It came a day after Rolls-Royce confirmed 4,600 jobs losses.

    Council leader Chris Poulter said: "They are still thriving businesses and I'm sure will make successful bids in the future."

    Derbyshire school children have had a sweet idea to raise money for charity this morning.

    Pupils from S. Anselm's Preparatory School in Bakewell are trying to send one of the town's famous puddings up to the edges of space to raise money for the Guide Dogs for the Blind charity.

    The pudding will be attached to a high altitude balloon and is expected to reach heights of about 35,000m (114,000ft).

    A tracker on the balloon will record its position along with temperatures and photographs.

    Firefighters from across the UK have been in Derbyshire competing to see who is best at cutting people free from road crashes.

    The Extrication Challenge over the weekend was the first ever hosted at the new training centre in Ripley.

    While the crashes were mocked up, the techniques used were real.

    A deal with a local car maker meant they could work with modern cars - rather than old bangers.

    Rob Taylor, of Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service, said: "It was a real unique opportunity for crews to work with high-end cars, similar to those on the real road, and really innovate their techniques."

    Two men have been arrested after a teenage boy was stabbed in Loughborough.

    The 15-year-old victim suffered a stab wound to his leg on Ratcliffe Road near the town's railway station on Sunday morning.

  10. Fake England shirts seized at airportpublished at 08:17 British Summer Time 18 June 2018

    As the England team starts its World Cup campaign, Leicestershire County Council’s Trading Standards officers have intercepted 12,000 fake football shirts at East Midlands Airport.

    The 27 loads of counterfeit kits were seized as they were brought into the country in the last few weeks and are worth more than £240,000.

    Officers said although the shirts are cheaper, customers are "still being ripped off".

    "You're buying an inferior product and you're funding organised crime," Trading Standards' Caroline North said.

    Most of them are fake England shirts and they will either be recycled or re-branded by charities after an investigation.

    A man has been taken to hospital after being stabbed in the leg in Nottingham's Victoria Centre on Sunday afternoon.

    Police said two other men were involved.

    The man's injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

    A cordon was reportedly set up on the first floor, near the Trespass Outdoor clothing store.

    The Intu shopping centre's general manager, Nigel Wheatley said police were called just after 14:00.

    "The safety and security of everyone in the centre is our priority and incidents of this nature are very rare and isolated," he said

    Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward after a man was shot in Nottingham.

    It happened on Ronald Street in Radford at about 14:00 on Sunday.
