Earlier we told you about the dozens of cows which died in a suspected mass poisoning at a dairy farm in Houghton on the Hill.
Tom Rawson, who runs Evolution Farming, said they first realised they had a problem when 10 cows "suddenly collapsed, showing symptoms of severe bloat".
Their condition was "so extreme" gas was released from the cows through their sides by performing a procedure known as emergency rumendectomies.
More cows continued to fall ill and the team, alongside the vet, battled through the night to save them.
In a statement, Mr Rawson added: "The outcome today is we have tragically lost 55 cows and have managed to save 30.
"No more cows have come down with the symptoms since last night and we believe we have managed to contain the issue, albeit with heart-breaking losses along the way.
An investigation is now under way into the cause but it is thought to be water-related. Mr Rawson said the farm's water supply is isolated but Severn Trent was notified as a precaution.
Vets and the fire service are called as 55 cows die in one night at a Leicestershire farm.

But it's not a difficult problem to fix.

He pleaded guilty at Derby Crown Court earlier.
Quote MessageThis robbery was a cowardly act against a vulnerable victim. I am hopeful that the length of sentence will send out a message that robbery will not be tolerated."
