    The girlfriend of a man accused of causing the death of a driver in Nottingham has appeared in court charged with assisting an offender.

    Father-of-two Stephen Walsh, 37, (pictured) died at home on Blenheim Avenue in Mapperley in July.

    Rosann Newton appeared for a brief hearing at Nottingham Magistrates' Court earlier, where she spoke only to confirm her name, age and address.

    The 21-year-old, of Findern Green, Sneinton, was bailed and is due at Nottingham Crown Court next Tuesday.

    Her boyfriend, Oliver Brown, 21, of Digby Avenue, Mapperley, denied manslaughter at a hearing earlier this month, when he was bailed ahead of a trial next year.

    After the 61-year-old was jailed in 2016 for money laundering and drugs offences, police described his home as an "Aladdin's Cave".

    A £25,000 gold Rolex watch, several pairs of Jimmy Choo shoes, designer handbags and luxury furniture were among items seized by the Insolvency Service.

    Three people have appeared in court after being charged with being members of banned far-right group National Action.

    Garry Jack, 22, and Daniel Ward, 28, both from Birmingham, and a 17-year-old boy from Nottingham, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, appeared at Westminster Magistrates' Court.

    It's alleged the three were members of the group between December 2016, after it had been outlawed under terrorism legislation, until September of last year.

    None of the three indicated a plea and the case has been sent to the Old Bailey for trial.

    In Derby, the number of people on benefits like jobseekers allowance and universal credit has risen by a third in two years, while in Derbyshire, the number has increased by a quarter in two years.

    A Fan Zone has been set up in Jubilee Square for fans to meet ahead of the England v Switzerland match tonight.

    A 92-year-old woman had her handbag stolen while she was out shopping in Long Eaton, say police.

    It happened several months ago, on 17 May, at the Aldi Cross Street store when the shopper hung her handbag on her trolley.

    She didn't realise it had gone missing until she got to the till. It had contained personal documents and cash.

    Derbyshire Constabulary has now released this CCTV image of two people they want to speak to about the theft.

    England manager Gareth Southgate said Leicester City deserves credit for bringing through young English players.

    Childhood sweethearts, Anthony Gearing and Patricia Hickenbotham, rekindled their relationship 60 years after splitting up.

    Now the couple, who said they re-met after "bumping into each other" at the bus station, are getting married at County Hall in Glenfield in two weeks.

    "I didn't even recognise her," said 79-year-old Tony, who said he broke off the relationship in his teens in 1957 because he was "in a bad mood one day".

    "We never saw each other in those 60 years but we hit it off and it seemed like we'd never been apart," said Pat.

    Speaking to Radio Leicester about remarrying in their 70s, Pat added: "It was a big step for me to take.

    "But it's no different to me as when we were teenagers. Why does age make any difference to how we feel about each other?"

    Notts County are looking for a stadium sponsor and could change the name of the Meadow Lane ground.

    The League Two club have insisted they will keep the address of where they have been based since 1910 in any new title.

    There was a mixed response amongst these fans to the proposal.

    Notts County, the oldest professional league football club in the world, said: "Like any football club - or business for that matter - we have to explore every opportunity to generate revenue and are looking for a sponsor who must not only meet the value we have set but also be accepting of our wishes to retain a reference to 'Meadow Lane' within the stadium's title.

    "We have held several discussions with a number of businesses but our search continues as we look to strike a delicate balance between maintaining our proud tradition and generating significant revenue for the club."

    Police said the 16-year-old boy had been arrested on Sunday.

    There have been complaints about the organisation of a music festival held in Wymeswold, Leicestershire at the weekend.

    Festivalgoers at Forbidden Forest 2018 have been leaving angry messages on the organiser's Facebook page with some calling it a "shambles" after people had to wait up to three hours to get into the site.

    "Lots of people were getting crushed and having panic attacks, people were collapsing because of the crowds and people pushing each other.

    "The whole experience was really dangerous."

    Organisers of the event apologised for the "unacceptable queuing times" at the entrance and exits and said they were looking at these issues for next year.

    In a statement they added: "We are extremely disappointed this may have tarnished customer experience, as this is paramount to us."

    A family has claimed two of their dogs died after drinking water from a brook in Ratby, Leicestershire.

    They told the Leicester Mercury , externalthey were not made aware of any issue with drinking the water and their other three dogs also fell seriously ill.

    The Envionment Agency said it was investigating after the deaths were reported to them at the weekend.

    A spokesman said: "Samples were taken and are currently being analysed. There were no visible signs of pollution at the time of sampling.”

    Plans for the redevelopment of the former Boots Island site in Nottingham will go on public display later.

    The derelict land, off London Road, has been earmarked for use since the 1990s with proposals submitted for approval in July.

    They include homes, shops and a five-star hotel on the 40-acre site. The plans will be on display at the Urban Rooms on Carrington Street until tomorrow evening.

    Christopher Ware, from developer Conygar, said: "We’re well aware of the site’s history and its several false dawns over the years, so we’ve been working closely with Nottingham City Council to ensure the plans fit into the wider vision of the city.”

    Meet Ron Haslam, or Rocket Ron, as he is known by most people in Little Eaton.

    He's a taxi driver from the Derbyshire village and has been volunteering as a driver for East Midlands Ambulance Service for 30 years, taking people to and from their hospital appointments.

    Ron is now urging more people to become volunteer drivers. He said: "Come along and join the service please, it's the cheaper form of transport.

    "You've got them [the patients] in your car and they're vulnerable and need looking after, and you try to cheer them up and make sure they're feeling OK and make it an easier journey for them there and back."

    He told BBC East Midlands Today he has no plans to hang up his car keys just yet.

    "I'll retire when I have to retire," he added.

    "When something will stop me from driving or I end up going to hospital with another volunteer myself."
