    Police have confirmed that a person hit by a train at Bingham station this afternoon has died.

    A spokesman for British Transport Police said: “Officers were called to Bingham station at 12:35 today after reports that a person had been struck by a train.

    “Colleagues from the ambulance service also attended, however, a person was sadly pronounced dead at the scene."

    TV presenter Richard Bacon, who's originally from Mansfield, has spoken about the illness which almost killed him this year.

    The 42-year-old started having breathing difficulties on a flight from the USA and was rushed to hospital, where he was put into an induced coma for 11 days.

    He said: “When I did take it seriously is when my breathing kept dropping off, they put me on a bed, hooked me up to a machine and gave me a breathing mask.

    “The lead consultant for the hospital appeared in front of me and said, ‘We’ve looked at your X-ray, it’s horrible. You need to go into an induced coma, otherwise you’re probably going to die.'”

    Mr Bacon now wants more funding so there can be more NHS intensive care beds available across the UK.

    He has hosted a number of BBC programmes in the past, including Top of the Pops and The Big Painting Challenge.

    The mummy was donated to the city by John Mason Cook – the son of local travel pioneer Thomas Cook.

    The new gallery will display more than 400 artefacts, nearly three times as many as were previously on display. It officially opens on Saturday 20 October.

    Police are appealing for information after a toilet block was damaged in the Peak District last weekend.

    Toilets and urinals were smashed and pipework damaged at a campsite near Hathersage.

    The damage was caused some time between Friday September 14 and Sunday September 16 at the North Lees Campsite on Birley Lane.

    A plane flying to East Midlands Airport from Spain has diverted to France after a pilot fell ill.

    The Jet2 flight from Girona had been due to arrive back in the UK at 12:30.

    An airline spokesperson said: "Flight LS612 from Girona to East Midlands has diverted to Rennes as a precautionary measure, due to one of the pilots feeling unwell.

    "A standby pilot will be flown to Rennes so that we can get customers on their way to East Midlands Airport as soon as possible.”

    The flight is now due back at East Midlands Airport at 17:00.

    Greater Manchester Police have launched an appeal for information following a "large-scale" fight between Nottingham Forest fans.

    Police are reviewing CCTV following the incident, which happened after Hillal Soudani netted a late equaliser for Forest.

    A number of fans were injured following the incident, which happened at the DW Stadium on 18 August.

  9. Landlord license scheme introduced in Gedlingpublished at 13:25 British Summer Time 25 September 2018

    A new scheme where property landlords have to pay for a license is to be introduced in part of Gedling.

    The selective licensing scheme came into effect for most parts of Nottingham city back in August.

    Gedling Borough Council is now following suit but with the scheme only covering Netherfield.

    It means landlords with properties in the area will have to pay up to £640 per property or face legal action.

    The council has said it'll encourage landlords to improve the state of their properties.

    Critics of such schemes claim the increased cost ends up being passed on to tenants.

    The scheme will go live next Monday but the council says it'll not take not any enforcement action if applications are received by 1 November.

    The BBC has been to Loughborough's twin town in Germany to find out their mayor's perspective on Brexit.

    Schwabisch Hall is in the state of Baden-Wurttenburg in southern Germany.

    It's a pristine old town with tidy streets, small squares, timber-framed buildings and a quiet river flowing gently by.

    But don't confuse it with Bavaria - mixing them up is like confusing Nottingham and Leicester.

    Schwabisch Hall has been connected to Loughborough for more than 50 years. The mayor, Hermann-Josef Pelgrim, was actually in the Leicestershire town on the day of the Brexit vote.

    He said: "We did not prefer that the British decided on Brexit. We have a very steady exchange of people, causal exchange, family exchange, sports and so on.

    "We think as a very open society we need a common Europe vision."

    He said the set-up of the UK government system could be one of the reasons people are unhappy being in the European Union.

    He said the EU has "almost no influence" on their town because all major decisions are made locally.

    Derbyshire batsman Wayne Madsen has signed a contract extension, external to stay at the club until the end of the 2022 season.

    The 34-year-old is the county's leading run-scorer in 2018, hitting more than 1,500 runs in all competitions.

    Talks over a Nottinghamshire 'super council' will continue to be held behind closed doors, after a request for the media and public to be present was again denied.

    Leaks from the Conservative-run Nottinghamshire County Council have revealed what will be discussed at the meeting this evening, with plans to scrap all district and borough councils in Nottinghamshire and replace them with one, or two, 'super councils'.

    Councillor Alan Rhodes is the leader of the opposition Labour group on the council and represents the Worksop ward. He said: "The media aren't always allowed into cross party working groups, but I think in this case it has to be an exception.

    "This is easily the biggest decision the council has made for years and years.

    "The Conservatives need to show that they have got nothing to hide, from the press or the public they represent."

    A spokesman for the county council confirmed that it was maintaining its position on not allowing media into the meeting.

    A complaint about the decision to hold the meeting has been made to the Local Government and Social Care Ombudsman.

    We've been given some more details on this morning's ram-raid at a Premier convenience store in Langwith.

    Derbyshire Police said a stolen Mitsubishi 4x4 was crashed into the front of the shop, in Main Road, at about 02:25.

    Three men were spotted trying to remove a cash machine but fled in a Ford Transit van, also stolen, after being disturbed.

    Witnesses have been asked to contact police - particularly if they have any helpful dashcam footage.

    Police have released photos of a man they want to speak to after valuables and cash were stolen from a van parked at Derby's Intu shopping centre.

    Cash was taken along with an Armani bag and a Louis Vuitton wallet while the driver of the Mercedes Sprinter was shopping at about 19:00 on Saturday 15 September.

    Police said the man pictured was a passenger in a silver-coloured Vauxhall Vectra Estate parked nearby. Call 101 if you can help.

    This summer's heatwave led to stronger-than-expected sales at Next in the first six months of the year, according to the Leicester-based retailer.

    As a result, Next said it was raising its profit forecast for the year as a whole by £10m to £727m.

    However, the company said, external the UK retail market remained "volatile" and it remained "cautious" in its outlook.

    It also highlighted key Brexit-related risks to its business, including higher tariffs on goods imported into the UK.
