    The fire and rescue service has been to see business owners near Nottingham's Cattle Market following a huge blaze earlier this month.

    Four business premises were destroyed by the fire and several more were damaged.

    Three people have been arrested on suspicion of arson in connection with the blaze which is thought to have "involved fireworks". They were all released while investigations continue.

    A 12-year-old boy has died after being hit by a car in Loughborough.

    It happened just after 19:00 last night on Meadow Lane, near the Boat Inn pub.

    Police have said the child was taken to hospital in Nottingham with serious injuries but later died. The driver of the car, a blue Ford Fiesta, was not injured.

    Meadow Lane was closed for several hours following the crash but has since reopened. No one has been arrested in connection with the crash.

    The Bank of England is looking for a British scientist , externalto be the face of the new £50 and several people have been championing the Nottinghamshire mathematician Ada Lovelace.

    The daughter of the poet Lord Byron is thought to be the world's first-ever computer programmer and she's got the backing of scientists in Nottingham.

    Glenn Crocker from BioCity describes Ms Lovelace as a "pioneer" of computer science.

    BioCity regularly hold "Ada Lovelace Days" and try to inspire more women to choose a career in science.

    He said: "A lot of people don't know or didn't know about her [Ada Lovelace] until relatively recently and I think she is an inspiration.

    "Hopefully we can get more women into science as a result of the promotion of the sort of things she does.

    "We're missing a big opportunity here."

    Fulham have appointed Leicester City's former title-winning manager Claudio Ranieri as their new boss, external.

    The London club, currently bottom of the Premier League following promotion last season, have handed the Italian "a multi-year contract".

    The 67-year-old returned to the East Midlands earlier this month to pay his respects to Foxes owner Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha following his death in a helicopter crash at the King Power Stadium.

    Police have closed a section of Heage Lane in Etwall after a "serious collision".

    All three emergency services are at the scene after getting a call just before 06:00 this morning.

    The crash has involved two vehicles at the Radbourne Lane junction. Information on the injuries of those involved haven't yet been released.

    The closure is in both directions between the A516 and Radbourne Lane. Part of Radbourne Lane is also shut. The closures are expected to remain in place for some time.

    The proposed redevelopment of Belper's mills would damage the Derwent Valley world heritage site according to Historic England.

    It has objected to the plans to turn the mills into housing, offices and restaurants, saying they lack detail.

    The Environment Agency has also objected to the plans because of flooding concerns.

    The developers, FI Real Estate Management said: "We are continuing to work closely with the local community and have been in ongoing dialogue with them regarding their views surrounding the redevelopment of Belper Mills.

    "We believe our plans present a viable solution to the mill complex's restoration and revitalisation, however any issues and objections raised will be addressed through the planning process."

    The government has provided a further £150,000 to investigate the disappearance of Madeleine McCann.

    Madeleine was three when she disappeared on holiday with her parents in Praia da Luz, Portugal, in May 2007.

    The Metropolitan Police launched its inquiry in 2011 after a Portuguese investigation failed to make headway.

    Madeleine's parents Kate and Gerry McCann, of Rothley, Leicestershire, have pledged never to give up the search for their daughter, who vanished from the family's holiday apartment while they were dining at a restaurant nearby.

    More restrictions are to be placed on "chuggers" in Nottingham - the people who collect money on the streets on behalf of charities.

    It's part of a raft of measures, to allow people to enjoy Nottingham "uninterrupted", according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

    The city council proposals include new limits on people giving out flyers, but will give buskers more freedom on where they can play.

    But thanks to Nottingham-based charity Footprints he gets therapy to help him improve his mobility and communication skills.

    Footprints is supported by Children in Need, through its conductive education.
