Police are investigating after a woman - who is believed to have been trafficked to the UK as a teenager to work as a nanny - fled her home.

Nottinghamshire Police said they were called after she asked for help in a shop.

The woman was reportedly brought over from Nigeria five years ago on false pretences and is said to have received no payment.

Det Insp Nikki Smith said the force is investigating claims a man controlled all her documents and "regularly assaulted her".

Officers searched a property in Beeston, Nottinghamshire, on Wednesday morning and arrested a 37-year-old man on suspicion of human trafficking and assault.

But at 02:45 Nottinghamshire Police were called by a member of the public who spotted the dog in the middle of Rickett Lane.

Seth was retrieved and officers deployed a drone out of concern his owner may have been in trouble.

After identifying him through his microchip, the dog was returned to Ms Firth.

"I was so relieved where I heard the police had found Seth safe and well," she said.

"I’m very grateful to the police officers for everything they did and I also want to thank the member of the public who called the police and all the people who helped look for him."
