    A legend of one East Midlands club looks set to take charge of another.

    Martin O'Neill is set to be appointed manager of Nottingham Forest following the departure of Aitor Karanka on Friday.

    O'Neill has previously managed Leicester City, Celtic and most recently the Republic of Ireland national team.

    The proposed design for a new bridge over the A52 has been revealed, external.

    The footbridge will link the Wyvern with Chaddesden.

    Councillor Matthew Holmes, Cabinet Member Leadership, Regeneration & Public Protection said: "I am delighted that we are now in a position to announce the new bridge design which will give improved accessibility to and from The Wyvern, enhancing walking and cycling facilities."

    Some 30,000 trees will be planted along the A52 following the construction of the bridge.

    A new swimming pool is set be built as part of a "state-of-the-art" £14m leisure centre.

    The new building should open in 2021, and is expected to feature a 25m pool, a new sports hall and gym, meeting rooms and a cinema screen.

    It will be built behind the Festival Hall Leisure Centre in Hodgkinson Road, Kirkby in Ashfield.

    Final designs have not yet been revealed, but the scheme is expected to be approved by Ashfield District Council at a meeting next week.

    Derby city centre footfall is believed to have fallen by about 10% last year, compared to 2017

    John Forkin, the managing director of investment agency Marketing Derby, told the council last week about the extent of the problem, saying: "Today our city faces an existential threat, the decline of its centre.

    "You only need to walk out the door of this building to see we're struggling to keep our heads above water."

    Mr Forkin pointed to Friargate restaurant Terroir Bistro, which announced its closure last week, citing a lack of weekday trade.

    Investigations have started into two separate shooting incidents in Nottingham this weekend.

    A 24-year-old woman suffered minor injuries, external when a gun was fired in the Top Valley area of Nottingham yesterday.

    Nottinghamshire Police said officers were called to Heatherington Gardens at about 02:00 following reports of a gunshot.

    No-one has been arrested but investigations are continuing.

    A man was also charged with possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear after police were alerted to gunfire in the St Ann's area on Friday night, external.

    There were no reported injuries in the disturbance, in The Wells Road.

    The 26-year-old, of Warton Avenue, Nottingham, is due before magistrates today. A 25-year-old man who was also arrested has been bailed.

    Two police officers were injured, external when their force car was involved in a head-on crash with a suspected stolen vehicle yesterday.

    One officer suffered shoulder and knee injuries and the other was treated for shock following the crash in Vulcan Place, Worksop, at about 17:40.

    The other driver - a 34-year-old man - had to be freed from his Peugeot by firefighters and was arrested in hospital on suspicion of multiple offences.

    Nottinghamshire Police said the crash was likely to be referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.

    Nottinghamshire's police and crime commissioner has backed calls for misogyny to be officially classified as a hate crime.

    Padding Tipping joined MPs and campaigners in signing an open letter to Metropolitan Police boss Cressida Dick and National Police Chiefs Council chair Sara Thornton calling for the change.

    It comes after analysis of crime figures by gender equality charity The Fawcett Society suggested 57,000 out of 67,000 gender-based hate crime incidents last year were aimed at women.

    Police in Nottinghamshire, North Yorkshire, Avon and Somerset have already adopted misogyny or gender as a form of hate crime for recording purposes.

    Helen Voce, manager of Nottingham Women's Centre, also signed the letter and said the change of approach in Nottinghamshire had improved women's trust in police.

    A man has been charged after a crash which left a woman and toddler inside an overturned car.

    Derbyshire Police said a Vauxhall Corsa hit five cars and ended up on its roof after failing to stop for officers in Long Eaton.

    Officers said the driver jumped into a canal in an attempt to escape.

    Nobody was seriously injured in the crash in Tamworth Road on Saturday afternoon.

    Liam Swinfield, 24, of Marriott Avenue in Chilwell, has been charged with dangerous driving, failing to stop, driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence, no insurance and no MOT.

    He's due to appear before magistrates in Derby this morning.

    The Guildhall Theatre in Derby has been closed until at least the end of the month because of a problem with its ceiling.

    Performances have had to be cancelled at short notice, including a production of Dick Whittington for which 1,000 tickets had already been sold.

    A man is due in court today charged with attempting to murder a woman at a park in Nottinghamshire.

    The woman needed hospital treatment after being attacked in Beeston Fields Recreation Ground in Beeston at about 12:20 on Friday but had been discharged by the following day.

    Richard Pickworth, 56, from Beeston, has been charged with attempted murder and is due to appear at Nottingham Magistrates Court later.

    Police are continuing to question three teenagers following a knife fight in Nottingham city centre on Friday evening.

    Two of the boys - aged 15 and 16 - were stabbed during the altercation in Fletcher Gate and arrested in hospital on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.

    Another 15-year-old boy was arrested for the same offence following the fight, which police believe involved four people in total.

    Ch Insp Donna Lawton, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: "Four males were involved in an altercation, which resulted in two of them suffering stab wounds.

    "It was not a random attack. It appears on the surface that they were known to one another."

    A Leicester man with Parkinson's disease who rowed across the Indian Ocean says his symptoms have improved as a result.

    Robin Buttery, 47, who was diagnosed in 2015, was part of a four-man team that took 70 days to cover the 3,600 nautical miles from Australia to Mauritius in September 2018.

    The 47-year-old replied to an advert for the challenge on a Parkinson's forum.

    Researchers from Oxford Brookes University, who examined Mr Buttery during his training and after he returned, believe it has showed exercise can have a beneficial effect on the symptoms of the disease.
