During the trial of Aram Kurd, Hawkar Hassan and Arkan Ali, jurors were told the trio deliberately caused the explosion on 25 February "to profit from loss of stock, contents and future loss of business from the shop".

They started the blast by setting alight "many, many litres of petrol" in the basement of the Polish store.

Shop worker Viktorija Ijevleva was left to die because she was aware of an insurance policy taken out less than three weeks earlier.

The blast also killed Mary Ragoobar, 46, and sons Shane Ragoobeer, 18, and Sean, 17, who lived above the shop as well as Shane's 18-year-old girlfriend, Leah Reek.

Prosecutor David Herbert QC said the men thought Ms Ijevleva "knew too much and decided to leave her to die in the explosion that they created".

The jury was shown CCTV footage of people escaping from a nearby takeaway moments after the explosion.

In the video, released by police after the trial, rubble can be seen flying into the road as cars pass by.

The CPS asked the court to consider the exceptionally high level of seriousness of this crime when sentencing, including the level of premeditation, their awareness that the Ragobeer family were in the flat above, their motive of financial gain and the fact that five people died as a result of their actions."
