  1. Watch: A52 burst main repair 'will take some time'published at 11:26 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2019

    Gavin Bevis
    BBC News

The A52 eastbound is expected to stay closed for some time between Gamston and Saxondale while work takes place to fix a burst water main in Radcliffe-on-Trent.

Jonathon Smith, from Severn Trent, said: "Everybody's got water supply so there's no problem from that point of view whatsoever.

"What our teams are doing is digging down, seeing what the damage is, they'll hack out the bit of pipe that's been damaged and get a new pipe in.

"Then we can start getting the road surface back to normal but I'm afraid it's going to be a wee bit before we can do that."

  5. Is Ashley Cole heading for Derby?published at 09:03 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2019

    Ed Dawes
    BBC Radio Derby Sport

Former England and Chelsea defender Ashley Cole is being heavily linked with Derby County this morning.

The left-back is a free agent having been released by LA Galaxy at the end of his contract.

He was captain at the MLS side - and the league itself is looking to go towards home grown talent rather than overseas players - so that is no slight on his ability or fitness at 38 years old.

Normally rumours during January are a-plenty but with the only other fit left-back Max Lowe going back to Aberdeen last night on loan for the rest of the season, and a source at the club didn't dismiss the link to me yesterday, our first question to Frank Lampard when he meets the media later should shed some light.

    BBC News

The parents of an 18-year-old woman who died in an explosion at a shop in Leicester last year have been reflecting on their loss.

Leah Reek was with boyfriend Shane Ragoobeer at his flat above the store in Hinckley Road when it exploded in February, killing them both along with his mother, younger brother and a shop worker.

Three men are due to be sentenced for five counts of murder later after a jury found them guilty of deliberately blowing up the shop as part of an insurance scam.

    John and Jo Reek

Ms Reek's parents, John and Jo, said: "We'll talk about Leah every day. She's still with us and she'll always be with us because she was so important to us.

"We just miss her. She was fun and kind, and we're very happy to have been her mum and dad.

"We were blessed to have her for 18 years - 18 years we'll always remember."

  9. Leicestershire pothole repairs among slowest in Britainpublished at 08:06 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2019

    Gavin Bevis
    BBC News

Leicestershire County Council has been named as one of the slowest authorities in Britain for repairing potholes.

The council's target response time of 72 hours was the second longest, behind Coventry's five-day target.

However, Derby City Council was ranked as one of the fastest in the RAC Foundation's study, with a one-hour response time.

The foundation said response times were influenced by how many miles of road a council has to manage and the size of the council area.

Director Steve Gooding said: "It is understandable that large rural authorities set themselves longer response times, simply as a result of having to travel further to effect repairs, but motorists might still be surprised to see such a wide variation across the country.
